Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse (NICU RN)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse to join our dynamic NICU team. This position involves providing critical care to neonates in a Level III NICU environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing complex cases and delivering high-quality patient care.

Shift Details

Shift Type: Nights
Shift Length: 12 hours
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
Holiday Requirements: Yes, includes 1 major and 1 minor holiday

Unit Information

Unit Type: NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)
Level of NICU: Level III
Number of Beds: 26
Nurse to Patient Ratios: 1:2 or 1:1
Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Charge nurse supports both NICU and pediatrics without an assignment
Neonatologist Availability: In-house 24/7

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive care for premature and critically ill neonates.
Administer and titrate medications, including dopamine, dobutamine, versed, and fentanyl.
Monitor patients through telemetry, reviewing strips to ensure patient safety.
Assist in high-risk deliveries and collaborate with the NICU care team.
Float to the nursery and pediatric unit as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of NICU experience required.
Required Certifications:
- BLS Certification
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- PALS
- LA City Fire & Safety
Experience in titrating drips and handling complex neonatal cases is essential.
Familiarity with various respiratory equipment and support, including oscillators and nasal CPAP.

Orientation

Onboarding includes 3 shifts on the unit with a preceptor.
Additional orientation in the nursery and pediatric unit (6 hours each).

Additional Information

Self-scheduling available by seniority, with management oversight to balance shifts.
Professional attire: Navy scrubs are required.
