Teaching Assistant - High-Risk / Special Needs (K-12)

Job Description

We're seeking Special Needs Teaching Assistants to join the team for the 2026–2027 academic year ! In this role, you'll aide in the support and guidance of high-risk and special needs students through academic instruction, social-emotional development, and enrichment activities in a low student-to-teacher ratio setting. High level of support for all staff. Apply Today!

Responsibilities:

Aide in the delivery of academic instruction and mentor students in a supportive, flexible learning environment
Aide in the delivery of social-emotional learning, art, physical education, and independent study into the curriculum
Support students with IEPs and/or behavioral challenges using empathy, structure, and creativity
Collaborate with staff and caregivers to promote student engagement and progress
Maintain accurate records and communication related to student performance and development

Requirements:

Experience working with high-risk and/or special needs students in K–12 settings
Strong knowledge of core academic subjects and adaptive learning modalities
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Creative, patient, and relationship-driven approach to teaching
Ability to work independently and think on your feet in dynamic situations

Competitive compensation structure: $25/hour
School Hours | Mon-Fri 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM
Paid holidays, snow days and personal days off

Operates out of the Adeline Wright Graham Boys & Girls Club in Schenectady, NY
Small group ratios (3:2 or 1:1 student-teacher support)
