Parking Facility Maintenance Tech Mechanical & Safety

Position Summary This position performs daily inspections, maintenance and minor repairs of the UNC parking facilities, parking equipment, lighting systems and cleaning equipment used by the Transportation and Parking maintenance section. It also performs annual restriping of parking lots and determines staffing levels for maintaining the deck structure in good repair. The technician ensures that decks are clean, well‑lighted, free of trip and fall hazards, and that all equipment operates safely and properly. Responsibilities include knowledge of lighting, elevators, parking control equipment, concrete construction, plumbing, emergency call boxes, and emergency standpipe systems, and ensuring safe operation during adverse weather. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification. Optional guidelines: experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis. Management Preferences Preferred candidate should be able to interpret blueprints, schematics and/or parking facility drawings, estimate and perform construction projects; have knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and job‑specific software; troubleshoot and repair electro‑mechanical parking equipment; operate and maintain a rear‑wheeled vehicle; and have supervisory experience. Special Physical/Mental Requirements This position reports to duty in adverse weather (Critical Employee Status). Must be able to lift/move 50 lbs. and move 100 lbs., climb stairs/ladders, bend, stoop and perform overhead work. Position/Schedule Requirements On‑call occasionally, overtime occasionally, weekend work occasionally, and requires a valid NC Driver’s License.
