POSITION SUMMARY:


The Registered Nurse (RN) - Circulator is responsible for coordinating and managing patient care in the operating room, ensuring a safe, efficient, and sterile surgical environment. This role serves as the patient's advocate throughout the perioperative process, monitoring safety, documentation, and communication between surgical team members to ensure optimal outcomes.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in the daily function and organization of the operating room in accordance with facility policies and regulatory guidelines.
• Provide direct and indirect patient care before, during, and after ophthalmic procedures.
• Monitor patient vital signs, administer medications safely, and respond to any intraoperative or postoperative complications.
• Oversee patient positioning, site preparation, and adherence to procedural safety protocols.
• Ensure that patients' rights, dignity, privacy, and comfort are always maintained.
• Perform accounting procedures to prevent retained surgical items and ensure all instruments and supplies are accounted for.
• Confirm correct surgical site, side, and level in collaboration with the surgical team.
• Manage patient specimens according to facility guidelines.
• Implement infection control measures to prevent surgical site infections.
• Communicate patient status updates to appropriate parties throughout the continuum of care.
• Assist in overseeing patient care activities and ensuring the OR team operates efficiently.
• Foster a collaborative work environment by using problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
• Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects to enhance patient outcomes.
• Act as a patient advocate, ensuring ethical, culturally competent, and age-appropriate care.
• Accurately document all aspects of nursing care, including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative observations.
• Maintain all required competencies, certifications, and continuing education.
• Participate in the performance appraisal process and ongoing professional development.
• Complete all required compliance training, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory standards.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration or a related field is preferred.
• Maintain current RN certification REQUIRED
• Adhere to all regulatory standards, including HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control policies.
• Support training and mentorship for surgical team members to promote skill development and best practices.
• Positive attitude and a love for helping others!
• Prior experience in a fast-paced medical office and electronic health records is preferred.
• Dependable transportation is required to travel to other offices as needed.
• Must be flexible when traveling to various locations as needed. ?
• Strong knowledge of sterile techniques, infection control practices, and surgical instrumentation.
• Proficiency in handling ophthalmic surgical equipment, including phacoemulsification and laser systems.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to anticipate surgeon needs.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced surgical environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

• Exerting up to twenty-five pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
• Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
• Have close visual acuity to perform an activity, including viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, interpretation, etc.
• Must possess the physical, mental, and cognitive skills to complete essential tasks, including learning, remembering, focusing, categorizing, and integrating information for comprehension, problem-solving, and timely decision-making.
• Must be able to be stationary for prolonged periods.
