Maintenance Technician - 1st shift

About the Role As a Maintenance Technician at Wheatland Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe repair, maintenance, and rebuild of tube mill production equipment. This position is responsible for maximizing equipment reliability, uptime, and performance while maintaining a strong focus on safety and quality. You will collaborate with maintenance and production teams to troubleshoot issues, perform repairs, and support continuous improvement initiatives. This is a full‑time, onsite role located in [Location] and is ideal for a hands‑on professional with strong electrical and mechanical aptitude who thrives in a fast‑paced, safety‑focused manufacturing environment. What You’ll Do Perform electrical maintenance on production equipment while following all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO). Ensure all guards and safety devices are in place and functioning before returning equipment to operation. Monitor inventory levels of maintenance parts and supplies and coordinate ordering and receipt verification. Utilize maintenance management systems to track, inspect, and report on equipment performance and repairs. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manuals to diagnose and repair equipment. Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, mechanical, and quality issues and elevate concerns as needed. Perform breakdown repairs, preventive maintenance, and equipment changeovers. Observe equipment operation using precision tools to identify and resolve performance issues. Fabricate repair parts using machine shop tools and equipment as needed. Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with company and OSHA safety standards. Operate powered industrial equipment such as forklifts, overhead cranes, and portable cranes. Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to problem‑solving efforts. Identify and report safety, quality, or operational issues that cannot be resolved independently. Lead and promote healthy and safe work practices as required by regulatory agencies and company policy. Perform other duties as assigned. Who You Are 5+ years of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment, preferably in a maintenance role. High school diploma or equivalent preferred; apprenticeship, journeyman training, military service, or related technical training preferred. Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, including familiarity with PLCs. Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics. Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills in a fast‑paced environment. Basic math skills and effective communication abilities. Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively.
