Director of Compliance
Crete Professionals Alliance
About the Company At Current, everything starts with people. We believe that when you invest in talent through opportunity, development, and support, you unlock growth for individuals, firms, and clients alike. That's why we've built a platform designed to give our people access to more: more learning, more collaboration, and more ways to grow their careers than any single firm could offer on its own. Founded in 2023, Currenthas rapidly become one of the fastest-growing accounting platforms in the country, partnering with more than 40 leading accounting firms across the United States. Today, our community includes over 2,000 professionals, 30+ offices nationwide, and a growing global workforce that supports clients around the world. Backed by Thrive Capital, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Springdale Industries, Current is investing heavily in technology, artificial intelligence, and workforce innovation to help modernize the profession. Our leadership team has a proven track record of building and scaling successful businesses, with prior ventures generating more than $3 billion in combined enterprise value. We're building something bigger than a traditional accounting firm: a platform where talented people can grow faster, learn more, and do more meaningful work. Whether you join Current, one of our partner firms, or our global team, you'll be part of a community shaping the future of the profession. About the Role The Compliance Director will help lead the day to day operation and continued development of Current's compliance and independence program across its growing network of partner firms. Reporting to the VP of Compliance, this role will be a senior technical and operational leader responsible for translating professional standards and regulatory requirements into practical, scalable processes that work across a multi-firm alternative practice structure. The Director will oversee core independence and conflicts processes, support the integration of newly partnered firms, and guide firm leaders through complex compliance matters. The role will also manage and develop members of the Compliance team and help strengthen a consistent culture of compliance across Current. The role requires strong technical judgment, a hands on operating mindset, and a willingness to learn. Current will provide significant onboarding, training, and ongoing support, and the successful candidate will not be expected to arrive with expertise in every aspect of Current's structure or compliance framework. They should, however, be comfortable researching difficult issues, making practical recommendations, building repeatable processes, and driving follow-through across multiple stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Compliance Operations and Independence
- Evaluate potential independence and conflicts matters, perform technical research, document conclusions, and escalate significant or judgmental matters to the VP of Compliance and other stakeholders as appropriate.
- Oversee the use, governance, and continued enhancement of compliance technology, including Intapp and related workflows, data quality, reporting, and user support.
- Maintain clear policies, procedures, templates, and documentation supporting the compliance program.
- Monitor completion of required compliance activities and follow up with partner firms and internal teams to resolve gaps or overdue items.
- Establishing priorities, expectations, and timelines for compliance integration activities
- Reviewing progress and advising on complex independence, alternative practice structure, and other compliance matters
- Helping resolve obstacles and escalating significant risks or delays when necessary
- Ensuring diligence findings, post close commitments, and baseline compliance requirements are completed and appropriately documented
- Coordinating with firm leadership and Current's Legal, M&A, Integrations, IT, Finance, HR, and Learning teams on matters requiring senior-level involvement
- Serve as a trusted advisor to firm leaders and internal stakeholders on independence, ethics, alternative practice structure, accounting firm ownership and governance requirements, peer review, licensing, and other professional regulatory matters.
- Stay current on changes in professional standards, and translate developments into timely, practical guidance for Current and its partner firms.
- Coordinate with external regulatory counsel, consultants, and other advisors when specialized support is needed.
- Develop concise written analyses, FAQs, decision tools, and other guidance that make complex requirements understandable and actionable.
- Develop and deliver training on independence, conflicts, alternative practice structure, compliance processes, and emerging regulatory topics.
- Perform or coordinate periodic assessments of compliance processes and controls, identify root causes of gaps, and implement corrective actions.
- Establish meaningful metrics and reporting that provide visibility into open matters, integration progress, training completion, system adoption, and other compliance priorities.
- Identify opportunities to simplify, automate, and scale processes while preserving sound professional judgment and appropriate documentation.
- Promote collaboration and sharing of best practices across partner firms, including through working groups, office hours, and other forums.
- Manage, coach, and develop Compliance team members, with clear allocation of responsibilities, priorities, and performance expectations.
- Create operating rhythms that support timely execution, appropriate escalation, and strong service to partner firms.
- Help define the future-state Compliance organization, including roles, capabilities, use of external resources, and hiring needs as Current continues to grow.
- Model sound judgment, discretion, responsiveness, and a practical, partnership-oriented approach to compliance
- Core compliance operations are reliable, well documented, and responsive to the needs of a rapidly growing network.
- New partner firms are integrated into Current's compliance framework through a consistent, efficient, and well managed process.
- Firm leaders view the Compliance team as a credible, practical thought partner that helps them manage risk without creating unnecessary friction.
- Complex matters are researched and resolved thoughtfully, with clear documentation and appropriate escalation.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in public accounting, compliance within public accounting or professional services, independence, risk management, audit quality, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of professional standards, ethics, and independence requirements applicable to the accounting profession, with the ability and willingness to deepen that expertise.
- Demonstrated ability to research technical matters, exercise judgment, and communicate practical conclusions to senior stakeholders.
- Experience developing, implementing, or improving policies, procedures, controls, and operational processes.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities across a fast-paced, multi-entity environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and diplomatically.
- Experience leading or developing team members and coordinating work across functional and organizational boundaries.
- High integrity, discretion, attention to detail, and a strong sense of ownership and follow-through.
- The compliance program continues to mature through better technology, reporting, training, and scalable processes.
- CPA or other experienced public accounting professional with an audit background.
- Experience in a professional practice, audit quality, risk, ethics, or independence function is preferred.
- Supporting the onboarding or integration of newly acquired or affiliated firms.
- Implementing new firm-wide policies, processes, or technology.
- Working with independence, conflicts, client acceptance, or workflow systems such as Intapp.

- Developing and delivering technical training, written guidance, or compliance communications.
- Familiarity with accounting firm licensing, ownership requirements, peer review, systems of quality management, or alternative practice structures.
- Comfortable moving between technical research, process design, stakeholder conversations, and hands-on execution.
- Practical and solutions oriented, with the judgment to distinguish between matters requiring precision and matters where progress is more important than perfection.
- Collaborative and approachable, while willing to raise concerns and hold others accountable when needed.
- Able to operate effectively through change, ambiguity, and rapid growth.
- Curious, self-aware, and committed to continuous learning and improvement.
- Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance (with options for fully paid employee only coverage for health and dental)
