Manufacturing Engineering Manager

GREAVES CORP

Job Description
Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY:
Greaves is hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the Engineering Department. The role calls for a strong project manager — organized, accountable, and relentless about execution — who can lead the team, run the workload, and own department results. The Engineering Manager is accountable for the people, the technical deliverables, project budgets, schedules, and performance management. You do not need to be a connector expert; Greaves will teach you the product. The role bridges disciplined project execution with people leadership grounded in LMA (Leadership, Management, and Accountability) principles. This is a strong fit for Master of Engineering Management graduates or seasoned project managers who want real ownership and visible impact at a growing manufacturer in the middle of a factory move and ramp.

EDUCATION & LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:
o Bachelor's degree required; engineering or another technical field preferred.
o MEM, MBA, or similar graduate degree is a strong plus.
o PMP certification is preferred; Lean Six Sigma certification is a plus.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
o Minimum 5 years of leadership and project management experience, with direct responsibility for people and project outcomes.
o Proven record of delivering projects on schedule and on budget, with excellent planning and organization skills.
o Clear communication, sound judgment, and comfort holding people accountable.
o Manufacturing experience preferred; connector experience is not required — Greaves will train on product.
o Comfort with project management tools and ERP/MRP systems; CAD (SolidWorks) familiarity is helpful but not required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Leadership & People Management (LMA):
Lead the Engineering team through disciplined application of LMA: give clear expectations, keep the right meeting pulse, communicate well, reward and recognize, and hold people accountable to the standards.

  • Conduct structured weekly 1:1s with each direct report focused on performance, coaching, development, and blockers; document commitments and follow-up.
  • Own the Engineering Scorecard: define measurables, review weekly, and drive corrective action when the numbers slip.
  • Participate in the weekly Engineering L10 meeting and own the department's Rocks, to-dos, and scorecard.
  • Set and enforce clear standards for work quality, timeliness, documentation discipline, and workplace conduct across the team.
  • Coach and develop engineering staff (Engineer Tech through Engineer 3) toward higher skill levels and greater ownership of scope.
  • Manage performance issues promptly and honestly: recognize when work is on track, address it directly when it is not, and document consistently.
  • Recruit, interview, and onboard new team members; maintain a cross-training and coverage plan to reduce single points of failure.

Project & Workflow Management:

  • Oversee and prioritize multiple engineering projects simultaneously; keep one clear schedule for the department.
  • Deliver new product development: once Sales or Product Development releases a project, own it from release to completion, including scope, schedule, budget, resources, and risks.
  • Manage the project portfolio: balance customer and technical support work against new product development, and set priorities accordingly.
  • Run technical support discipline: ensure technical questions and support tickets are triaged, resolved, and closed on time.
  • Build repeatable processes for project intake, ticket management, documentation, drawing and BOM control, and engineering changes.
  • Monitor project metrics for schedule adherence, cost efficiency, and design quality.
  • Coordinate the engineering work for the Hamden move and ramp with Operations.

Technical Direction & Oversight:

  • Ensure design and process changes are reviewed, approved, and documented against applicable UL, IEEE, ASTM, and NEC standards — personally or through qualified engineering staff.
  • Ensure design validation and testing procedures are maintained (prototyping, FEA, qualification testing) and that outputs meet performance and compliance targets.
  • Lead or coordinate root cause analyses and corrective actions for complex product or production issues.
  • Champion innovation in materials, coatings, and manufacturing processes to sustain product leadership.

Process & System Management:

  • Maintain and enforce engineering documentation standards, revision control, and ERP accuracy.
  • Implement and continuously refine departmental procedures for design control, communication, and workflow tracking.
  • Ensure all engineering work aligns with Greaves' quality, safety, and operational standards.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration:

  • Represent Engineering in leadership, planning, and cross-functional meetings.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and opportunities to executive leadership.
  • Translate company strategic goals into actionable engineering priorities.
  • Support Sales and Supply Chain with technical expertise for quoting, lead times, and feasibility assessments.
  • Working knowledge of engineering documentation standards, drawing control, and BOM/revision discipline.
