Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in an 18-bed mixed-acuity unit serving both Step Down and ICU-status patients at nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:1 for fresh hearts and devices, 1:2 for ICU-status patients, and 1:3 for step-down-status patients
• Manage and titrate a broad range of vasoactive, antiarrhythmic, sedation, and anticoagulation drips including Cardizem, Cordarone, Levophed, Vasopressin, Propofol, Heparin, and others
• Care for patients with diagnoses including atrial fibrillation, STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, heart failure, pulmonary embolism, and post-operative cardiac and thoracic surgery patients (CABG, valve repair, VATS, lobectomy)
• Operate and monitor respiratory therapy equipment including ventilators, trach-vents, BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow, and trilogy devices in coordination with 24/7 on-unit respiratory therapy staff
• Read and interpret cardiac monitor strips every 4 hours; address monitor alarms in coordination with off-unit monitor technicians using Philips monitoring systems
• Float as needed, primarily to ACU and ICU, with occasional float to Med-Surg and Telemetry (maximum 6 patients)

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license valid in West Virginia
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum experience with post-operative open heart patients greater than 6 hours post-op; fresh open heart (from OR) experience strongly preferred
• Must have experience with CRRT, temporary pacemakers, post-permanent pacemaker care, acute MI pre/post cath, mediastinal and chest tubes, mechanical ventilation, hypothermia protocol, arterial lines, and titration of drips listed above
• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• A copy of a valid, unexpired driver's license is required with all submissions

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience with IABP and/or Impella mechanical circulatory support devices
• Hemodynamic monitoring experience, including Swan-Ganz catheter management
• Familiarity with Epic EMR
• Prior charge nurse experience in a cardiac or critical care setting
