Reports to: Director of Facilities Operations Summary The Royal Gorge Route Railroad, located in Canon City, CO, maintains a fleet of six EMD diesel locomotives and 19 passenger cars, which includes eight diesel-powered 480VAC generators with engines from MTU, Detroit Diesel, and Deutz, as well as several company vehicles and facilities. We are seeking a skilled HVAC Technician to work alongside our Lead HVAC Technician in maintaining and repairing HVAC systems throughout our rail fleet and facilities. The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of HVAC experience and hold an HVAC certification or Journeyman HVAC Technician designation. - Assist the Lead HVAC Technician with HVAC maintenance, repair, and installation projects.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair HVAC equipment, controls, and associated electrical circuits.
- Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC systems to maximize reliability and equipment life.
- Monitor HVAC systems and electrical circuitry to ensure proper operation and compliance with safety standards.
- Observe equipment performance and identify hazards, deficiencies, or opportunities for improvement.
- Install, maintain, and replace HVAC equipment and components as needed.
- Perform brazing, soldering, and refrigerant-related repairs in accordance with industry standards.
- Assist with compressor repairs, rebuilds, and replacement of related HVAC components.
- Operate and maintain HVAC diagnostic, measuring, and testing equipment.
- Support HVAC system modifications and upgrades as directed by the Lead HVAC Technician.
- Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and purchasing teams to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and inventory usage.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Respond to urgent HVAC issues and equipment failures as needed.
- Assist with other maintenance-related tasks and projects as assigned.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair experience.
- HVAC certification required; Journeyman HVAC Technician license preferred.
- Experience troubleshooting commercial or industrial HVAC systems.
- Working knowledge of electrical systems, controls, and diagnostic equipment.
- EPA Refrigerant Certification preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions, confined spaces, and elevated work areas.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
- Must be able to safely work around railroad equipment and active maintenance operations.
