About Cooper Consolidated Cooper Consolidated is a balanced, asset‑based provider of midstream stevedoring, barge, marine, and logistics services operating along the lower Mississippi River between Southwest Pass and Baton Rouge, handling cargo movement throughout the U.S. inland waterway system. Job Summary This position oversees and directs staff engaged in stevedoring activities such as unloading and loading of barges and sea‑going vessels, advising and directing operations, and ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable operations on a 7 on / 7 off schedule. Responsibilities Fully participate in and lead the company Safety Program, including attending and leading pre‑shift meetings. Coaching and guiding staff on safety to ensure activities performed align with the company safety program. Perform duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations, including appropriate PPE usage. Oversee and direct staff performing all barge and vessel processes, such as removing barge covers, loading and unloading commodities, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. Lead, coach, and guide staff on customer service and operating costs. Manage staff performing barge and vessel loading/unloading safety procedures and assist in analyzing workload to assign or reassign personnel as needed. Communicate with vessel officers and marine fleets to meet loading/unloading production efficiencies. Provide regular status updates to the Terminal Manager regarding delays, production, safety infractions, or other hazards. Assist with inventory management of equipment and supplies to maintain adequate levels. Oversee housekeeping duties in crane, on deck, and load/unload areas. Ensure accurate and timely completion of all documentation and reports, including Safety correspondence in Cooperwork, daily logs, and payroll time sheets. Communicate with customers and third parties professionally as required. Collaborate with managers to provide input into staffing, training, employee corrective actions, pay raises, and other development activities. Develop, communicate, and manage individual staff performance expectations aligned with company goals. Manage equipment and labor expenses. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent experience and training. Experience: 5 years in stevedoring/marine industry with management and customer relations experience. Strong knowledge of vessel stevedoring operations, vessel operations, and barge handling. Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to interact with all levels. Strong organizational, strategic planning, time management, and multitasking skills with flexibility to changing priorities. Strong leadership skills and planning abilities. Ability to work independently or within a team environment. Ability to utilize common sense to provide direction to others and assist when needed. Physical Demands & Environmental Conditions Lifting, pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs frequently; climbing, crouching, stooping, bending, and squatting frequently. Standing, walking, balancing, kneeling, and working around deep water. Operating on a barge surface and climbing ladders or working at significant heights. Performing work in confined spaces and environments with high dust levels. Working outside in extreme weather conditions and extended hours, weekends, holidays, and alternate shifts as needed. Using peripheral vision and depth perception for tasks.
