Position Summary:

The Occupational Health Nurse supports employee health, workplace safety, and injury prevention within a manufacturing environment. This role provides occupational health services, first aid and clinical assessment, coordinates work-related injury and illness case management, supports return-to-work and work-restriction processes, and maintains confidential occupational health records. The Occupational Health Nurse also partners with employees, leaders, safety professionals, occupational clinics, and other health care providers to promote employee wellness, regulatory compliance, and safe return to work.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Identify occupational health trends and recommend preventive actions or program improvements when appropriate.
• Maintain occupational health supplies, equipment, and inventory and complete required inspections.
• Provide or coordinate health and safety training within area of expertise, including First Aid/CPR and bloodborne pathogens, as assigned.
• Participate in safety meetings, incident reviews, and investigations when occupational health expertise is required.
• Develop and maintain professional relationships with occupational health clinics, medical providers, and other external health care resources.
• Develop and support employee health and wellness initiatives, including ergonomics, health education, awareness campaigns, immunization events, blood drives, and other wellness programs.
• Coordinate or support pre-employment and other company-authorized health screening and drug-screening activities in accordance with established procedures.
• Support compliance with applicable occupational health and safety requirements, including relevant MIOSHA/OSHA standards and required health-related programs.
• Maintain confidential occupational health and medical records in accordance with applicable requirements and company procedures.
• Coordinate return-to-work and work-restriction processes in partnership with employees, health care providers, leadership, and appropriate internal stakeholders.
• Support Workers' Compensation case management by maintaining required documentation, coordinating with appropriate stakeholders, and assisting with claim-related follow-up within the scope of the role.
• Review occupational health documentation, including provider reports, work restrictions, and other medical information needed to support safe work placement and case management.
• Coordinate occupational injury and illness case management, including documentation, follow-up, medical restrictions, and return-to-work activities.
• Provide first aid, clinical assessment, and appropriate referral for employees who are injured or become ill at work.
• Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards:
  • Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain
  • Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited nursing program.
• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Michigan.
• 3+ years of nursing experience in occupational health, employee health, emergency, critical care, or another relevant clinical setting.
• Ability to work on-site in a manufacturing environment and provide schedule flexibility when business or urgent occupational health needs require support.
• Ability to maintain confidential medical information and exercise sound clinical judgment within the scope of professional nursing practice.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Occupational health, case management, ergonomics, or related professional certification or training.
• Experience delivering First Aid/CPR, bloodborne pathogens, or other occupational health and safety training.
• Working knowledge of OSHA/MIOSHA occupational health requirements applicable to a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with Michigan Workers' Compensation case management, work restrictions, and return-to-work coordination.
• Occupational health nursing experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

Skills & Competencies:

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn occupational health, case-management, or related systems.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across Health & Safety, HR, operations, and external health care providers.
• Ability to manage multiple cases, priorities, and follow-up activities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills when working with employees, leaders, medical providers, and external partners.
• Strong written documentation skills with high attention to accuracy and detail.
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Knowledge of applicable confidentiality and medical-record requirements and general Workers' Compensation processes.
• Knowledge of occupational health nursing practices, injury/illness case management, and workplace health programs.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

• Schedule flexibility may be required to support manufacturing operations, employee incidents, or urgent occupational health needs outside standard business hours.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle exposure to medical information, bodily fluids, and other occupational health situations using required precautions.
• May require standing, walking, bending, reaching, and assisting with occupational health activities for periods of time.
• Must be able to respond to employee injuries or illnesses and move throughout the facility as needed.
• Regular interaction with employees in production areas may require use of designated personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with site safety requirements.
• Work is primarily performed on-site in an office, occupational health/medical area, and manufacturing environment.
