The EMS Clinical Division Chief leads EMS clinical operations, ensuring exceptional patient care and strict adherence to medical protocols. This role involves developing and updating clinical protocols in collaboration with the EMS Medical Director, overseeing credentialing processes to maintain provider competency, and managing EMS education programs including initial training, continuing education, and skills validation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and revise clinical protocols aligned with current best practices.
- Manage clinical credentialing to ensure EMS providers meet established standards.
- Coordinate EMS education initiatives, including training and skills assessments.
- Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements related to EMS clinical functions.
- Support budget planning for clinical education, credentialing, and validation programs.
- Research emerging EMS clinical trends and recommend protocol and training updates.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations regarding Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Foster effective communication and professional relationships with patients, team members, physicians, and external agencies.
Education and Experience:
- Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum seven years of EMS experience, including five years as a paramedic in the field.
- Preferred five years of leadership or supervisory experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Current Paramedic certification from the relevant state EMS board.
- Valid BLS/CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Incident Command System certifications (100, 200, 300, 700 & 800) within two years of employment.
- Preferred certifications include Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to critically evaluate and improve medical protocols and procedures.
Physical Requirements: Medium work involving occasional lifting up to 50 lbs and frequent standing or walking (26-50% of the day).
