Job Overview The City of Chandler Cultural Development Department is seeking a Museum Education and Public Programs Coordinator. The role is a full-time, indefinite assignment based in Chandler, Arizona, working 40 hours per week, Tuesday through Friday, with regular weekend work on alternating weekends. Responsibilities Supervise and oversee daily operations of the education and public programs area, setting goals and objectives, managing schedules, evaluating performance, and facilitating staff development. Assist the Museum Manager and Senior Program Manager with program development and implementation, contributing to the museum’s strategic plan. Collaborate with other institutions and community partners. Research, develop, and deliver written materials and presentations for educational programs and exhibits. Oversee curriculum and learning goals for all public‑facing programs (pre‑K to adult). Conceptualize, plan, and execute educational activities, including school group visits, summer camps, workshops, and public programs aligned with exhibitions. Develop and oversee field‑trip programs in partnership with local school districts. Manage the development of interactive exhibit components (e.g., interpretive materials) and ensure alignment with educational objectives. Analyze visitor feedback and program effectiveness, reporting findings to stakeholders and recommending improvements. Recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate education staff, educators, docents, and interns. Qualifications Understanding of museum operations, exhibit planning, development, and implementation; familiarity with collections management practices. Experience developing educational programming for children and adults, including marketing and public relations skills. Knowledge of City history, ability to instruct in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and experience with fundraising and grant preparation. Knowledge of OSHA, state, county, and city safety regulations. Strong supervisory skills, performance evaluation experience, and ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously. Computer proficiency and ability to operate required software. Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Effective oral and written communication skills, including ability to convey instructions clearly. Positive public image and ability to maintain working relationships with city employees and the public. Barriers to employment: clear speech and hearing, vision sufficient to comprehend written instructions, manual dexterity for office equipment, and physical mobility to lift up to 20 pounds. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, social science, public history, or a related field. Three (3) years of experience within a museum setting and in education/programming within a museum setting. Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record. Equivalent combination of experience and training that demonstrates necessary knowledge and abilities.
