About the Position

Job Title: Operating Room Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 12 weeks Shift: 8-hour Days Hours per Shift: 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM Experience: Minimum 2 years of Operating Room experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Must have at least 2-3 years of Operating Room experience. Experience with all cases and robotics (Da Vinci Xi) is required. Trauma experience is a plus, as there may be some trauma cases. Previous travel experience is necessary. Description: Candidates may not have been directly employed by any associated facility within the past year. First to float between campuses as needed. Call outs are strongly discouraged and could lead to termination. The unit has 8 Operating Room suites and 2 endoscopy rooms. The average number of cases per day can range from 5 to 30 across OR, endo, and cysto. Common cases include cholecystectomies, appendectomies, hernia repairs, mastectomies, lumpectomies, hysterectomies, total joint procedures, podiatry, ENT surgeries, and various GI scopes. Scrubbing is required, but RNs are not required to scrub for all cases. A charge nurse is available to assist, but not generally assigned cases. The electronic medical record system is a point-and-click format similar to common systems. Shifts are Monday through Friday, from 3:00 PM to 6:30 AM for on-call hours, every 2-3 days. Weekend call may be scheduled for every third weekend or every other weekend, with flexibility in picking days. Holiday call is mandatory, and travelers will rotate with permanent staff. Response time for call is expected to be 30 minutes. Floating will usually occur between campuses. Navy scrubs must be brought from home; they are not provided. Orientation will include several days with a buddy system and may extend up to a week based on experience to ensure thorough exposure to cases. The unit is smaller, fostering a tight-knit and teamwork-oriented environment. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment, or 3 shifts for shorter assignments. Charting is done using a specific electronic medical record system.
