Controls and Automation Specialist Required Skills and experience Two to five years of experience or equivalent schooling Panel wiring for 3-Phase industrial motor controls. Electrical troubleshooting skills using common equipment such as a multimeter. Self-disciplined and self-motivated. Read and interpret wiring diagrams. Mechanically adept and proficient with installation of electrical support structure. Internal and external customer service oriented. Meet or exceed production schedule. Job Description – Controls and Automation Specialist Assist the Special Projects Manager on implementation of projects, to include but not limited to: Layout and wire control panels per design drawings Set, wire and test projects such as special radios, limit switches, proximity sensors, zoning, and semi-automated systems Site surveys, measurements, and detailed information on data tags for quoting and retrofit Requires travel to customers in all ESI territories to survey and install applications. Installation will be along side a territory maintenance tech for the purposes of teaching and project handoff An ESI truck will be provided for travel to and from the work site Per diems will be provided for each day out of town Travel will be roughly 40%-50% of the work. This will include some overnights and some weekends. Assist in developing electrical controls drawings and quotes Plan, design, and source materials for projects for local maintenance crews to install Keep work areas clean and organized Continuous improvement on ways to improve both efficiency, and final product Assist in developing “standard options” and add-ons that will help with quoting and consistency of design Assist the wiring shop manager to help with crane production, includes: Assemble and wire cranes per ESI standards and procedures. Mounting of mechanical equipment such as panels, motors, hoist, and c-track components Run festoon wires from c-track to control panel. Wires to be arranged and secured so that they are neat and orderly. Run motor leads and wire into motor. Layout and cut holes on bridge panel for festoon cable connectors. Wire bridge panel. Requires adding and wiring into terminal strips. Wires to be routed such that the panel is neat and orderly. Wires shall be labeled. Startup and test all crane operating functions. Program VFD drives. Test trolley and bridge directions. Check fluid levels, vent plugs and other vendor requirements on machinery. Diagnose and troubleshoot any electrical issues at startup. General Shop duties that will apply to both the Apprentice position and in helping the wire shop: Fill out all startup paperwork to include VFD parameters, component model and serial numbers. Include wiring diagrams and paperwork with bridge for shipment. Secure and protect all panels and motors from weather for shipment. Wear and utilize proper PPE (to include but not limited to, safety glasses, EH rated steel toe shoes, gloves, arc flash equipment, etc.) Shop Cleanliness: Responsible for wiring areas to be clean on a regular basis. Includes sweeping, emptying trash and completing any daily equipment maintenance required. Help with field startup and electrical issues. This will require occasional travel to customer facilities and may require overnight stay. Field tech support. Answer phone calls and questions from ESI technicians to assist in customer startups or break downs. Other duties as assigned Key performance areas includes but are not limited to: Wiring, blueprint reading and retaining information/directions Operation of industrial lift equipment and may need to work at heights greater than 25ft Project and time management Good communication skills both verbal and written Safety Must work with others in a high-speed and high-volume production environment to effectively support fabrication functions and meet production schedules. Demonstrate competence and a high skill level in the troubleshooting and diagnosing a variety of startup and wiring issues. Communication & customer service skills required. Ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in both a team environment and individually.
