About the role

\n

Facility Diagnostics is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer who can diagnose complex building-system problems, lead commissioning projects, and build strong client relationships. This hands-on role combines technical judgment, field investigation, project leadership, and business development for healthcare, commercial, and institutional clients.

\n

\n

Working with the FD team, you will take ownership of engineering and client assignments, develop practical recommendations, and carry work through completion. We are looking for demonstrated capability, sound judgment, and the ability to earn client trust.

\n

\n

Primary responsibilities

\n

• Lead commissioning projects from design through construction and occupancy. Coordinate scope,

\n

schedules, team responsibilities, client communication, issue resolution, and deliverables.

\n

• Review design documents and sequences of operation; develop and execute prefunctional checklists

\n

and functional performance tests; document findings and verify corrective actions with owners,

\n

designers, contractors, and operators.

\n

• Investigate HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and controls problems. Use site observations, system

\n

data, engineering calculations, and testing to identify root causes and recommend practical solutions

\n

within your professional competence.

\n

• Conduct facility condition assessments and support infrastructure, replacement, and capital planning.

\n

Explain system condition, risk, priorities, and recommended next steps clearly to clients.

\n

• Support energy audits and operational improvement projects as appropriate, including evaluation of

\n

energy conservation measures, savings calculations, implementation recommendations, and contractor

\n

coordination.

\n

• Build client relationships, recognize needs, help develop scopes and proposals, and actively contribute

\n

to business development and follow-up.

\n

• Produce accurate, useful reports and technical recommendations. Coordinate with FD project leaders

\n

and help develop the technical capabilities of other team members.

\n

\n

Required qualifications

\n

• Active Professional Engineer license. A Mechanical PE is preferred; an Electrical PE may be considered

\n

with meaningful mechanical systems expertise.

\n

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

\n

• Demonstrated experience diagnosing building-system problems and delivering design or

\n

commissioning projects. Selection will emphasize capability and results rather than a fixed number of

\n

years.

\n

• Strong knowledge of HVAC and mechanical systems, with the ability to evaluate their interaction with

\n

plumbing, electrical, and building automation systems.

\n

• Client-facing communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues, lead meetings, build

\n

relationships, and help generate work.

\n

• Ability to manage assignments independently, coordinate with a team, and follow through on

\n

commitments while working remotely.

\n

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Adobe applications, with the ability to use engineering

\n

calculations and system data in problem solving.

\n

• Current authorization to work in the United States.

\n

\n

Preferred experience

\n

• Healthcare facilities experience is strongly preferred. Candidates without healthcare experience should

\n

demonstrate exceptional strength in the other core requirements.

\n

• Commissioning certification such as CxA, BCxP, or an equivalent credential.

\n

• People-management experience or demonstrated potential to develop and lead others.

\n

\n

Location and travel

\n

This position is based in Nashville, Tennessee, or within a one-hour radius, with access to Nashville airport. Preferred candidates would live in the area or relocate before starting. The position requires approximately 40% travel for site visits and client engagements, with focused and reliable work from home between trips.
