PROJECT ENGINEER - STRUCTURAL

Reports to: Director of Technical Services and Engineering

\n

\n

GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

\n

The Project Engineer – Structural provides technical consultation, engineering analysis, and

\n

project support across internal teams, external partners, and customers. This position is

\n

responsible for delivering technical proposals, ensuring product and project designs adhere to

\n

applicable building codes, and guiding drafting personnel in generating construction drawings.

\n

Additionally, this role manages outside consultants and vendors while assisting the sales force

\n

with troubleshooting, site inspections, and customer presentations.

\n

\n

CORE & ESSENTIAL:

\n

TASKS:

\n

\n
• Provide consultation and expert advice to customers, management, the sales force, and architects regarding products, roof system approvals, competitive intelligence, and roofing techniques
\n
• Manage outside engineering and architectural consultants to estimate, propose, produce, and deliver successful projects
\n
• Manage and execute, independently and/or in collaboration with internal and external entities, the following programs and/or services:
\n
• Components and cladding wind design
\n
• Structural evaluation of existing buildings
\n
• Forensic review of existing building structural problems
\n
• Light gauge cold form steel framing design
\n
• Structural review of renewable energy systems and other sustainable solutions for building enclosure projects
\n
• Manages the company’s internal wind uplift calculation program
\n
• Direct and oversee vendors on engineering deliverables, including shop drawings, structural evaluations, and engineering calculations
\n
• Write and manage all components of technical proposals including cover letters, executive summaries, technical approaches, resumes, project descriptions, and summary narratives, in response to government and commercial engineering requirements
\n
• Develop product and project designs in compliance with local, state, national, and international building codes and product approvals
\n
• Interpret construction drawings and guide drafting personnel in the generation of new technical drawings
\n
• Assist the sales force, architects, and customers with technical troubleshooting and problem resolution, including conducting on-site visual inspections
\n
• Proofread and edit technical documentation, engineering reports, and project proposals
\n
• Administer and manage engineering-related consulting contracts
\n
• Deliver technical PowerPoint presentations to potential clients and represent the company at trade shows and industry conferences
\n
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

\n

A minimum of 5+ years’ experience in engineering consulting, specifically in roofing and/or

\n

building enclosure science is preferred. Possession of a post-secondary degree in engineering,

\n

building and construction, or architectural degree is preferred, high school diploma or GED is

\n

required. Professional Engineer’s or Architect’s license is a plus. In lieu of a degree, a comparable

\n

combination of education, job specific certification(s), and experience (including military service)

\n

may be considered. Ability to display proficiency in AutoCAD and spreadsheet design. Working

\n

knowledge of construction product specifications and detailing. Requires knowledge and

\n

communication of general design principles, building codes and approvals, roofing/building

\n

enclosure science, and product application techniques. Must successfully pass all required

\n

background screenings and obtain the requisite security clearance(s) to gain access to locations

\n

which require more stringent background scrutiny (example: military bases/installations).

\n

Demonstrated aptitude for problem-solving; ability to determine solutions for customers. Excellent

\n

communication and organizational skills. The ability to learn new concepts/procedures quickly.

\n

Must be results-orientated creative self-starter who is able to work both independently and within

\n

a team environment. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency

\n

in using Microsoft Office Suite applications. Adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g. use

\n

of protective gear). Driving is a requirement for this position. Must have the ability to travel both

\n

domestically and internationally, so the ability to travel by plane, operate a motor vehicle and

\n

maintain a driver’s license are required. Must have a vehicle in good working condition and ensure

\n

it meets all safety, insurance, and legal requirements. Overnight domestic and international travel

\n

required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

\n

Ability to communicate orally in a clear, concise and effective manner with the customers, account representatives, company representatives, management, staff, and the public in face-to-face, one-

\n

on-one and group settings. Ability to use a telephone for communication. Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance at the facility and/or designated location(s). Ability

\n

to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Use office equipment such

\n

as a personal computer, copier and facsimile machines. Ability to communicate in writing in a

\n

clear, concise and effective manner. Sit, walk and/or stand for extended time periods. Hearing and

\n

vision required to be within normal ranges. Ability to accurately distinguish color variation. Read

\n

at, above, and below shoulder height. Occasionally stoop, kneel or crouch. Sufficient manual

\n

dexterity required to operate equipment. Must be able to carry, push, pull, reach and lift up to 50

\n

lbs.; climb ladders/extension ladders, climb scaffold stair towers; climb and traverse different roof

\n

levels. The ability to be lifted to and work at varying heights. Sufficient manual dexterity to cut and manipulate products/ materials and use a flashlight. Ability to properly use Personal Protective

\n

Equipment (PPE). Ability to work in inclement weather with frequent exposure to the

\n

elements. Ability to tolerate household and other types of typical industrial / construction

\n

chemicals and solvents while properly using and wearing PPE as necessary. Ability to occasionally

\n

work evenings, weekends, and overnight travel required. Must have the ability to travel by plane,

\n

operate a motor vehicle, maintain a valid state motor vehicle driver license, and maintain an

\n

acceptable motor vehicle driving record. Overnight travel may be required.
