Diesel Mechanic IIILautenbach Recycling is a construction and demolition recycling company serving Northwestern Washington, with locations in Skagit, Whatcom, and San Juan counties. Our diesel mechanics keep the trucks, loaders, and processing equipment running that support our recycling, container rental (Northwest Container Rentals), transportation, and composting (Skagit Soils) operations.Swing Shift: Monday - Friday, 1:00pm - 9:30pmDiesel Mechanic III is responsible for the maintenance and repair of heavy-duty diesel equipment and services. Must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment. Onsite training is provided to help technicians improve their skills, and technicians are expected to keep current on training.Leadership ResponsibilitiesDelegate and oversee work assignments for Technician I and Technician II.Communicate repair status clearly with other departments.Prioritize repairs based on safety and scheduling needs.Mentor and support newer employees.Work independently with minimal direct supervision.Identify opportunities to improve shop efficiency.Duties/ResponsibilitiesApply advanced knowledge of engines, transmissions, differentials, A/C, suspensions, final drives, swing drives, and hydraulics.Determine unit condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests and identifying deficiencies.Perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.Test equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications; make adjustments as needed.Maintain cost efficiency by using warranty coverage and evaluating service and parts options.Maintain accurate documentation of service and repairs in vehicle and equipment records.Develop technical skills through ongoing training opportunities.Maintain prompt, reliable attendance on scheduled workdays.Maintain, organize, and clean equipment and the work area.Comply with applicable safety standards and regulations, including all PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) requirements.Participate in the on-call rotation as scheduled.Perform other related duties as assigned.Required Skills/AbilitiesEnter data efficiently into various computer systems (email, QuickBooks, etc.).Apply advanced mechanical repair skills.Read and interpret service manuals, repair manuals, and work orders.Complete repairs in a timely manner.Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent required.AA in Diesel Technology, or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience, required.OEM certification and/or ASE certification preferred.Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; CDL preferred.Physical RequirementsWork safely in a noisy area with many odors present, including frequent truck traffic and dust from an active recycling facility.Regularly lift 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.Inspect vehicles to determine repairs needed.Maintain good vision to inspect repair work.Bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.The BenefitsCompetitive Pay: This non-exempt, hourly position pays $26.50-$36.00/hour, depending on experience.Health Coverage: Company-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance after two full months of employment.Paid Time Off: Vacation, sick leave, and company holidays.Retirement Savings Plan: 401(k).Professional Development: Training, workshops, and seminars related to diesel technology and industry trends.L&I Coverage: The employer pays 100% of L&I rates, providing employees with greater take-home pay.Employee Assistance Program: Free, confidential support for stress management, legal questions, and more.This position is based at our Mount Vernon facility, just north of Highway 20 in the Skagit Valley.
