School Nutrition Worker

As a School Nutrition Worker, you will play an essential role in supporting student health and academic success by ensuring the provision of nutritious, well-balanced meals in a safe and welcoming environment. Responsibilities include preparing, portioning, and serving food in accordance with established guidelines and standards; maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, serving, and dining areas; and ensuring compliance with food safety regulations. This position also involves setting a positive tone in the cafeteria by providing courteous and respectful service to students, staff, and visitors. School Nutrition Workers contribute to creating a supportive school community where all students are encouraged to thrive.
Essential Duties:
- Prepare and serve meals according to school guidelines and recipes
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the cafeteria, kitchen, and serving areas
- Assist with receiving and storing food supplies and equipment
- Follow food safety and hygiene regulations
- Provide friendly and efficient customer service to students and staff
- Assist in maintaining inventory and restocking supplies
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager or Supervisor
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in food service preferred but not required
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Basic math skills for measuring ingredients and calculating serving sizes
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects and stand for long periods of time
Working Conditions:
- On your feet most of the day
- Lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs
- Working around hot ovens, freezers, and kitchen equipment
- Fast-paced environment with lots of movement
- Some exposure to noise, cleaning supplies, and food odors
- Teamwork and daily contact with students and staff
Employment Benefits/Terms:
- Salary: As per the Master agreement between the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association. This is a hourly position paid Bi-Weekly
- Benefits: Benefits eligible on start date. 30 days to enroll in coverage from start day. BSD Benefits!
- Paid Time: CTO As per the Master Agreement
- This is a school year position
