Job Description Summary Under limited supervision, the Cardiovascular Technologist I assists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease in an invasive procedure arena specializing in the care of patients undergoing basic diagnostic catheterization and interventional procedures. This role functions as a resource to staff. Entity Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) Worker Type Employee Worker Sub-Type PRN Cost Center CC003720 COL - Cath Lab (DMC) Pay Rate Type Hourly Pay Grade Health-27 Scheduled Weekly Hours 12 Work Shift Job Description Entity/Organization: MUHA (Medical University Hospital Authority/Medical Center) FLSA Status: Hourly Hours Per Week : Job Description: Under limited supervision, the Cardiovascular Technologist I assists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease in an invasive procedure arena specializing in the care of patients undergoing basic diagnostic catheterization and interventional procedures. This role functions as a resource to staff. Job Duties: Performs scrub duties and related procedures for cardiac interventions, left heart catheterization and right and left heart catheterization with no assistance. Performs scrub duties and related procedures for peripheral diagnostics or interventions with minimal assistance. Ability to scrub, gown, glove and set up back table with necessary equipment. Records cardiac interventions, left heart catheterization and left and right heart catheterization hemodynamics with accuracy. Monitors procedure, and documents inventory used and order of events appropriately in MacLab(tm) event log. Requires only occasional minimal assistance. Maintains ECG set up and rhythm monitoring. Maintains basic hemodynamic set up and waveform monitoring. Assists in preparation of room with fellow staff members for safe, effective care of patient. Performs required checks on all safety equipment. Ensures adequate supplies present to perform procedures. Transports patients alone or accompanied by a fellow staff member. FLSA: Hourly Required License Certification and Registration : RCIS, RCES, CEPS, or RT(R)CI certification required within the first 2 years of hire and must be maintained. If applicable, American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Act (SCRQSA) also required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within three (3) months of hire and thereafter maintained. Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Education: Bachelors Degree or equivalent Work Experience: 0-6 months. Graduation from an accredited Invasive Cardiovascular Technology program; or equivalent education and/or experience and RCIS, RCES, CEPS, or RT(R)CI certification required; or Graduation from an accredited school of radiologic technology and one year of radiologic experience. Telemetry and Arterial and Venous Sheath Removal experience preferred. Copy of academic degree or transcript required. Physical Requirements: Ability to perform job functions while standing. (Frequent) Ability to perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders. (Continuous) Ability to fully use both legs. (Continuous) Ability to use lower extremities for balance and coordination. (Frequent) Ability to reach in all directions. (Continuous) Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. (Infrequent) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (Frequent) Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations. (Continuous) Ability to work rotating shifts. (Frequent) Ability to work overtime as required. Ability to work in a latex safe environment. (Continuous) Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions. *Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function*Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Additional Job Description Education: Bachelors Degree or equivalent Work Experience: 5 years for support or 0-2 years for professional. Required License Certification and Registration: Must be certified as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Licensure from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association is required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Current certification in Advanced Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association. Minimum Requirements: Associate’s Degree or equivalent. Required License Certification and Registration: Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and certified as an ARRT, or be certified as an RCIS or RCES with Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). Licensure from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association is required. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
