Company Description: CareFlite is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit ambulance service sponsored by Baylor Scott & White Health, JPS Health Network, Methodist Health System, Parkland, and Texas Health Resources. CareFlite provides medical transport by helicopter, airplane, and ground ambulance, and non‑medical transport via wheelchair van. Job Description Position Summary The Secondary Ground Paramedic provides patient care under the direct supervision of a Primary Paramedic while gaining experience and proficiency in advanced life support practices. This role is designed for newly certified paramedics who are in the process of completing CareFlite’s clearance program to become a Primary Paramedic. The Secondary Paramedic assists in patient assessment, treatment, and transport while prioritizing safety, learning, and teamwork. Key Responsibilities Assist the Primary Paramedic in delivering emergency and non‑emergency patient care in accordance with CareFlite Clinical Practice Guidelines. Support patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and documentation under supervision. Perform basic life support interventions and selected advanced procedures as directed by the Primary Paramedic. Responsible for the safe operation of the emergency vehicle in accordance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as CareFlite Policies and Procedures. Demonstrate working knowledge of all medical and non‑medical equipment, which is part of the ambulance. Perform routine maintenance checks on the assigned vehicle at the beginning of each shift. Reports and documents maintenance performed and service required, if any. Assist flight crew in loading and unloading patients for the CareFlite helicopter and for fixed‑wing aircraft. Adheres to all aviation safety requirements in the performance of these duties. Responsible for ensuring that CareFlite is perceived by its customers in a positive manner by conducting all interactions in a professional and courteous manner. Communicate positively with patients, family members, and medical personnel. Ensures that all individuals involved in the transport are fully informed of pertinent details related to the transport. Accommodate family members to the extent possible without jeopardizing the safety of the patient mission or other CareFlite personnel. Provide CareFlite Communication center with information required to initiate, track, and close out the mission. Meet special medical and/or comfort needs of patients to ensure that their transport is a positive experience. Responsible for participating in the delivery of non‑emergency and emergency patient care in accordance with CareFlite Clinical Practice Guidelines. Complete appropriate clinical assessment of patients and report medical condition to receiving facility personnel and/or family. Complete appropriate records to accurately report patient condition at time of transport and to record services rendered by CareFlite personnel before and during transport. Ensure that the assigned vehicle is adequately stocked and cleaned according to CareFlite policies and procedures. Actively participate in quality assurance/improvement activities as directed by their supervisor. Acquaint yourself with the quality assurance surveys and/or quality improvement projects, which affect their practice, and adhere to the standards or changes implemented. Provide feedback in a positive, proactive manner on quality assurance/improvement activities that impact their practice. Search out opportunities to utilize their free time while on duty to improve their professional skills or participate in work‑related projects, such as public relations with facilities. Identify efficiency or cost‑saving ideas in a timely manner to their immediate supervisor. Support assigned partner by sharing in the delivery of patient care, lifting of patients and/or equipment, documentation of transports, and stocking, cleaning, and maintenance of assigned vehicle. Focus efforts on supporting their co‑workers at all times. Be tolerant of diversity within the work setting and will address co‑workers in a respectful manner at all times. Personal issues will be addressed outside the workplace. Constructive criticism of a co‑worker or supervisor will be offered in a private setting and delivered in a positive and respectful manner. Manage time appropriately to ensure that all areas of their job responsibilities are adequately covered. Actively seeks out additional assignments or assists co‑workers with their tasks when they have completed their assigned tasks. Have active listening skills. Communicates to co‑workers and the public in a clear, concise, and positive manner, both orally and in writing. Demonstrate a positive approach to problem‑solving and utilize the chain of command appropriately to resolve work‑related issues. Possess and demonstrate sound judgment and objectivity in decision‑making, including sound airworthiness determinations/clinical determinations/business determinations. Initiate work independently without direction and can be relied upon to complete tasks without continual supervision. Maintain personal knowledge of area of expertise through industry contacts, review of pertinent literature (manuals), and utilization of available educational resources. Maintain professional appearance. Maintain ethical, courteous, and professional behavior, which reflects favorably on CareFlite. Adheres to the CareFlite Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. Monitor own areas of strength and weakness; and seek out opportunities and/or guidance for improvement. Seeks appropriate channels for personal and professional development. Demonstrate flexibility and have the ability to respond to changing priorities. Demonstrate changes in behavior or attitude following constructive guidance. Deal with conflict in an appropriate and effective manner. Exhibit a positive attitude in support of CareFlite and CareFlite/hospital management. Refrains from making negative comments about CareFlite, the hospital, and/or the staff. Written and oral communications are clear and concise. Attend staff meetings as required by policy. Qualifications Required: 18 years of age or older High school diploma or equivalent Current Paramedic certification/license in the state of Texas Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record Current ACLS, BLS, PHTLS, and PALS (within 6 weeks of hire) Preferred: Previous EMS or healthcare experience Strong interest in professional development and advancement to the Primary Paramedic role Core Competencies Teamwork: Collaborates effectively with Primary Paramedic and other team members Communication: Listens actively and communicates clearly under supervision Adaptability: Responds positively to feedback and changing priorities Integrity: Follows protocols and seeks guidance when needed Patient Focus: Provides compassionate care while prioritizing safety and learning Additional Information All your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
