Purpose of the Position Family Liaisons work to meaningfully strengthen the connection between school, home, and community. They collaborate with the Community Schools Resource Coordinator to ensure families are represented in decision‑making and are aware of the partnerships and opportunities available through the school. Family Liaisons increase access and linkages to community resources, prioritize student attendance work, and coordinate volunteer opportunities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Work collaboratively with school staff and Student Services, including bilingual staff, to identify and support families in need; manage a small caseload of higher‑need families (no more than 5 per semester). Work directly with School Student Support Teams, School Parent Support Teams, MSCR and the School PTO/PTA to promote diverse parent representation and involvement. Act as an advocate for parents to ensure their voices are heard and valued throughout decision‑making. Meet with parents and Principal regarding concerns or complaints and work with school staff to resolve issues. Conduct home visits, including accompanying the School Social Worker, and support families with transportation using allocated funds for bus tickets or taxi services (personal vehicle use only per district policy). Attend school‑based evening events that the Family Liaison has helped plan, and discuss attendance at PTO/PTA meetings with the Principal. Promote communication with families and community: write articles for the parent newsletter, prepare presentations for staff, and interact with media and community leaders (with Principal approval). Serve as a co‑lead for the “Read Your Heart Out” program; collaborate with other school staff, recruit volunteers or community speakers, and coordinate program resources. Attend professional learning and meetings offered by FYCE and/or Community Schools leaders; share key learnings on family‑engagement practices. Submit payroll and expense documentation to the FYCE Clerical Assistant; manage FYCE budget funds and inform Principal of available funds. Support attendance initiatives, PTO and Neighborhood Associations, area businesses/nonprofits to promote daily attendance and safe transitions; support enrollment efforts at the beginning of the school year and during assessment weeks. Coordinate Family Empowerment Groups to strengthen caregiver voice; prioritize parent‑teacher conferences; conduct regular home visits and contacts to keep families informed about resources. Support the annual “Read Your Heart Out” event in celebration of National African American Parent Involvement Day; participate in Neighborhood Resource Team meetings if available. Facilitate resourcing of families and caregivers regarding school identity, priorities, opportunities, and systems. Recruit parents, caregivers, neighborhood associations, nonprofits, faith communities, and others for strategic volunteer opportunities in the school. Support the Principal in creating a system and resources to welcome new enrollees/transfers to the school. Attend all professional learning and meetings offered by the Department of Engagement, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (EDEI) and/or FYCE Coordinator; be eligible for the district’s Grow Your Own programs. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational skills. Demonstrated interpersonal and problem‑solving skills, including conflict resolution and mediation. Computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Demonstrated successful experience building positive community relationships. Experience working cross‑culturally and/or a commitment to developing cultural competence. Willingness to learn district technology tools for reporting and monitoring student progress. Fluency in Spanish and/or Hmong is an asset; bilingual candidates should be prepared for language proficiency assessments. Working Conditions Work may require travel to different locations within the district and off‑site meetings. Positions may require working evenings, nights, and some weekends. The district may offer hybrid work flexibility for a portion of the schedule, depending on the role; detailed discussion during the interview. School‑based positions are required to be in‑person unless directed otherwise by the building principal. Physical Requirements Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors is minimal. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and may involve walking, sitting, stooping or reaching. Manual dexterity is necessary for general tasks while operating office equipment. May require prolonged stationary periods. Must be able to work in various indoor and outdoor environments, including inclement weather, spaces without air conditioning, and areas with fluctuating temperatures.
