Family Law Attorney - South Asian Network (Artesia) The South Asian Network (SAN) is a 36-year-old grassroots, community-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the health, well-being, and civil rights of South Asians living in Southern California. SAN is the only South Asian organization of its kind that provides outreach, direct services, and advocacy in the key areas of health and well-being, civic engagement, mental health, violence prevention and intervention, small business support, and youth & senior engagement. SAN embraces the diversity of the South Asian American community as strength and builds unity among South Asian immigrants in Southern California. The SAN team is composed of highly dedicated, resourceful, accomplished and diverse individuals who are passionate about issues such as social justice and empowerment. Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000 and commensurate with experience Benefits: Health, dental, and vision insurance; 403(b) retirement plan; 40 hours of paid time off (PTO); 40 hours of paid sick leave; 12 paid holidays; 2 paid winter break days; & 1 paid floating holiday. Location: Will be based out of SAN’s main office in Artesia with visits to branch offices in Little Bangladesh (DTLA) & Inland Empire office as needed. SAN’s Family Law Attorney will provide trauma-informed family law representation to survivors of gender-based violence. This role is designed for an attorney who will work directly with survivors and in close collaboration with advocates and case managers to support the safety, stability, and long-term family well-being. SAN’s AWAZ program serves survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, elder abuse, child abuse, and human trafficking. Our clients are low-income immigrants with limited English proficiency who face barriers related to language access, transportation, technology, housing instability, and immigration status. Legal services are delivered as part of a holistic, survivor-centered model that prioritizes safety, dignity, and informed choice. The Family Law Attorney will primarily provide family law representation related to abuse, including civil protection orders, custody and visitation matters, child and spousal support, and other family-related legal issues impacting survivor safety and stability. In addition to direct legal services, the Family Law Attorney will play a leadership role within the Unit by supporting staff, strengthening legal workflows, and participating in community education and prevention efforts. Position Responsibilities Responsibilities of the Family Law Attorney include, but are not limited to: Direct Family Law Representation Provide trauma-informed legal representation to survivors of gender-based violence in family law matters, including: Domestic violence restraining orders Child custody and visitation Child and spousal support Divorce or legal separation related to abuse Related family court matters impacting survivor safety Prepare and file pleadings, declarations, and other court documents Represent clients in family court hearings and proceedings Conduct client interviews, legal assessments, and factual investigations Negotiate settlements and resolutions when appropriate, prioritizing client safety and goals Survivor-Centered Legal Support Work closely with SAN advocates and case managers to ensure coordinated, holistic services Provide legal counseling, brief services, pro se assistance, and referrals as appropriate Support court accompaniment or representation efforts alongside advocates to ensure that client rights are not being violated Maintain regular communication with clients & provide clear, accessible updates on case status Serve as a legal resource to staff by advising on family law issues and survivor protections Support in the development of the Legal Unit, creating internal policies and drafting grant required documents Help develop and strengthen legal workflows, documentation practices, and referral systems Participate in supervision, case conferencing, and cross-unit collaboration as needed Comply with all grant, funder, and reporting requirements related to legal services Community Education & Advocacy Conduct know-your-rights presentations, legal clinics, and community workshops related to family law and survivor protections Represent SAN in community coalitions, task forces, and collaborative efforts related to gender-based violence Support SAN’s broader advocacy efforts on behalf of survivors at the local and state level, as appropriate. Additional Responsibilities: Represent SAN in community and collaborative efforts. Support advocacy efforts at local, state, and national levels on behalf of victims of abuse. Must be able to work some evenings and weekends and have reliable transportation. Physical Requirements: In an eight-hour workday, the employee must be able to bend and crouch occasionally, sit continuously and stand or walk frequently. Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and admission to the California State Bar Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously in a fast-paced environment Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills; detail-oriented with strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to work independently Demonstrated commitment to serving immigrant communities and working on behalf of low-income individuals, with a strong commitment to civil rights and racial justice Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends Valid California driver’s license, insurance, and access to a vehicle for work-related travel Bilingual skills (English plus at least one South Asian language) Ability to support and advance the mission and values of the South Asian Network Desirable Qualifications Experience working with community-based or institutional partners Experience with legal data tracking, case management systems, or program reporting Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and creatively The South Asian Network is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity at all levels.
