New England Center for Children (NECC) is seeking a compassionate, clinically skilled Primary Care Nurse (RN) to provide healthcare and case management for students in our residential program. Under the administrative supervision of the Director of Health Services and the clinical supervision of our Nurse Practitioners and Pediatrician, the Primary Care Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to an assigned caseload of residential students. This is a hands-on role where your clinical expertise, assessment skills, and ability to build trusting relationships with students, families, teachers, and clinical staff make a meaningful difference every day.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Provide Primary Healthcare
- Case Management Provide primary healthcare and case management for an assigned caseload of residential students. Conduct advanced health assessments and identify changes in students health and healthcare needs. Collaborate with Nurse Practitioners, the pediatrician, and other healthcare professionals when additional clinical assessment or intervention is needed. Participate in the daily health clinic, including preparing new treatments and nurses orders for students seen in the clinic. Instruct teachers, parents, and other caregivers regarding treatments and healthcare needs. Serve as a medical liaison between clinical staff and parents. Communicate confidently and professionally with parents regarding students health concerns, treatment plans, and ongoing care. Participate in the organization and coordination of specialty medical clinics with consultants, program teams, and parents. Assist team members with transporting students to medical appointments when needed, including driving to appointments.
- Manage Medications
- Promote Safety Manage the medication system for your assigned caseload of residential students. Supervise, educate and train clinical staff regarding delegated medication administration. Participate in narcotic counts and other medication-related responsibilities to support safety and regulatory compliance. Educate
- Collaborate Provide health education and training to teaching staff. Educate teachers, parents, and clinical staff about treatments, medications, and student health needs. Work collaboratively with Clinical, Administrative, and Executive staff. Participate in weekly department meetings and regular supervision meetings. Participate in Health Services policy and procedure development. Assist with the coverage of other nursing areas, including Residential, Day Services, Occupational Health, and Adult Services, during staff absences and vacation periods. Support Department Operations Participate in department responsibilities such as cleaning clinic and examination rooms, maintaining medical equipment, and completing other tasks required for regulatory compliance and effective department operations. Assist with maintaining a safe, organized, and well-functioning clinical environment. Participate in other nursing and departmental responsibilities as needed.
- Provide On-Call Support Participate in a rotating weekly beeper/on-call schedule. Be available to provide nursing care to students during assigned off-school hours. The rotation runs Thursday through Thursday and includes holidays, which are distributed equitably among Primary Care Nurses. The rotation may occasionally include evening and weekend coverage. Maintain sufficient flexibility in your personal schedule to respond to student healthcare needs during assigned beeper coverage.

What You Will Need:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in Massachusetts.
- Minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current BLS certification for Adults, Children, and Infants through the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA).
- Successful completion of required NECC orientation, Drivers Training, and Health Services orientation.
- Strong clinical assessment and nursing judgment skills.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to use electronic systems required for nursing and administrative responsibilities.
