Bridge Inspection Team Leader

At RK&K, we have an immediate need for an experienced, career-minded Bridge Inspection Team Leader to join our team in our Baltimore location. Your primary function will be to serve as an NBIS Bridge Inspection Team Leader for a diverse inventory of bridges and structures for numerous clients. This position would be supporting work in Maryland, Northern Virginia and District of Columbia areas. You will be expected to immediately lead structural condition inspections of bridges and structures following NBIS and owner specific guidelines and develop detailed condition inspection reports. Structure types include complex and workhorse bridges, tunnels, culverts, small structures, retaining and noise walls and various types of signing and lighting ancillary structures.

Successful performance in this role will lead to potential rapid advancement into leadership and management roles in the condition inspection area where, in addition to continuing to serve as a Bridge Inspection Team Leader, individual would supervise other Team Leaders and Inspectors, regularly interact with clients and manage inspections assignments and/or contracts.

Essential Function

• NBIS Team Leader for Inspection Tasks
• Collaborate with the Bridge Inspection Managers to schedule daily activities of inspection staff and equipment
• Prepare detailed and accurate inspection reports in client preferred formats documenting findings, assessments, and recommendations
• Perform Quality Control reviews of inspection reports generated by other Team Leaders or Inspectors for accuracy and completeness
• Work closely with a diverse inspection team across RK&K's various office locations
• Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to junior engineers within the team
• Take a leadership role in managing task orders and projects as required

Required Skills and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or structural engineering
• Four (4) years' experience in bridge/structures inspections
• Familiarity with various bridge inspection reporting systems of agencies – MDOT SHA, MDTA, MTA, VDOT, DDOT and local agencies. Software experience preferred for AssetWise, ASIR, InspectX, etc., including incorporation of Element Level and SNBI reporting data
• Satisfy the requirements as a Team Leader per National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) 23 CFR Section 650.309
• NBIS Bridge Inspection Training – NHI Courses 130055, 130053 (within last 5 years), required; 130078 – NSTM version, preferred; 130087, preferred; 130110, preferred
• Experience with development of load rating analyses for As-Built or As-Inspected conditions for legal and permit vehicles using hand calculations and available software – LARS, BrR, DESCUS, STAAD, LARSA, CANDE, etc.
• Effective, professional oral and written communication skills including coordination with vendors and the safe implementation of bridge inspection access equipment and traffic control required for bridge inspection activities

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Master's degree in civil engineering or structures
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.)
• Ancillary Structure Inspection experience
• Snooper and Bucket Truck Training
