Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse

The Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse provides direct and individualized nursing care to adult patients before and after surgical procedures. This role involves assessing patient conditions, administering medications, and monitoring vital signs. The nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. It is necessary to respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or response to treatment. The nurse is responsible for initiating the computerized Plan of Care upon admission. Other general nursing duties may be performed under appropriate supervision.

Essential Job Functions: The nurse will perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Acceptance of responsibility for the direction, control, and planning of activities is required. The nurse will make evaluations and decisions based on measurable or verifiable criteria. Independence in work is expected. Recognition of the rights and responsibilities of patient confidentiality is crucial. Empathy and compassion must be conveyed to those experiencing pain, grief, or trauma. Creating a sense of teamwork and cooperation with others is essential. Effective and therapeutic communication with people from every socioeconomic background is necessary. Incorporating guest relations into daily activities is expected. The ability to provide care for the patient's age-specific, cultural, physical, and psychosocial well-being is essential. Agency nurses may float to other departments where they are qualified to perform patient care. Support for the organization's mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures is required. Participation in required education for applicable programs is expected. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications: Education Required: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing Preferred: BSN, MSN Licenses/Certifications/Registrations Required: Evidence of continuing education appropriate for skill level and area of practice. Preferred: Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN), CRASE training (if travel assignment extends beyond a 6-month period). Certifications: BLS - required, PALS - required, ACLS - required.
