LEHIGH UNIVERSITY. The Department of Sociology and Anthropology and the Health, Medicine, and Society Program invite applications for a joint, tenure-track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Sociology, with a specialization in medical sociology, and an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027.
Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in Sociology by the date of employment. Candidates must also have at least one scholarly work accepted for publication or have secured extra-institutional research funding.
The individual hired will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in quantitative methods, introduction to sociology (taught periodically as part of a rotational schedule), and upper-division sociology electives, as well as offering interdisciplinary courses in Lehighs Health, Medicine, and Society Program, including both the core course Medicine & Society and electives for advanced undergraduates. The individual hired must maintain an active program of research and participate in departmental, college, and university service. The selected candidate is expected to carry a standard teaching load of 2/2 and to demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based, inclusive teaching practices.

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology has 14 faculty members and offers undergraduate majors and minors in anthropology and sociology. Department faculty are active researchers and dedicated teachers who collaborate in a variety of interdisciplinary academic programs. The Health, Medicine, and Society Program has 13 faculty members representing multiple disciplines. The program offers an undergraduate major and minor and is jointly administered by the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Health.
