About the Role About the Role Our client, a prestigious independent school situated in Welkom, Free State , is seeking an innovative and experienced Head of Curriculum Development, specializing in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). This senior leadership role is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the STEM curriculum from primary to secondary levels. The successful candidate will lead a team of dedicated educators, drive pedagogical innovation, and ensure the curriculum remains relevant, engaging, and prepares students for future academic and career challenges. This position offers a hybrid working model, combining on-site leadership with remote development work, based in our client's state-of-the-art campus in Welkom . Key Responsibilities Lead the strategic planning and development of the STEM curriculum across all relevant grade levels. Oversee the integration of new technologies and pedagogical approaches within the STEM subjects. Manage and mentor a team of STEM educators, fostering collaboration and professional growth. Ensure curriculum content is up-to-date, aligned with educational standards, and relevant to future industry needs. Develop assessment strategies that effectively measure student learning outcomes in STEM. Collaborate with other department heads to promote interdisciplinary learning and project-based initiatives. Organize and lead professional development workshops for STEM faculty. Champion STEM initiatives within the school and the wider community of Welkom . Analyze student performance data to inform curriculum revisions and instructional improvements. Requirements A Master's degree or higher in a STEM field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics) or Education with a STEM focus. Minimum of 8 years of experience in education, with at least 4 years in a curriculum development or leadership role. Proven track record of successfully designing and implementing innovative STEM curricula. Deep understanding of current trends and best practices in STEM education, including inquiry-based learning and project-based learning. Strong leadership, management, and team-building skills. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal abilities. Experience with educational technology integration and data analysis for curriculum improvement. A passion for STEM education and a commitment to student success in Welkom, Free State . Experience working within an independent school setting is preferred.
