Deadline: August 1, 2026 District/Organization: JKL Bahweting Anishnabe School Position/Type: Other, full time Salary: $52,000 – $93,598 JOB TITLE School Social Worker CLASSIFICATION Full time, school-year, exempt SUPERVISES None REPORTS TO Director of Special Education POSITION SUMMARY Develop and coordinate services to assist children in their full participation in the educational environment and maximizing their potential for success. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Identifies problems and situations interfering with the ability of children to make optimal use of the educational experience. Provides a problem solving service to children and their families through individual, group, family and community social work methods, so as to enable those served to cope with problems adversely affecting the ability of children to make optimal use of the educational experience. Serves as a liaison between the school, the home, school personnel, and the community in maintaining positive relations. Coordinates and develops resources within and outside the school system for use by children, their families, and school personnel. Collaborates with principals, teachers, and other school personnel to improve use of existing school programs and procedures, as well as to plan and implement new programs and procedures related to the educational, social, and emotional needs of children. Coordinates or serves as a member of a child study team and provides social/emotional assessment information related to planning for children with adjustment problems. Prepares classroom observations, rating scales or other assessments to school personnel, parents, and when appropriate, the student. Serves as a consultant to basic classroom program personnel for the general education population and provides direct therapy and intervention services for children identified with needs. Participates with school, families, and community staff in altering situations adversely affecting the personal, socio‑emotional and academic development of children. Fosters professional development through in‑service education of school instructional and support staff through planning, conducting, and participating in workshops. Provides diagnostic evaluations of children suspected of being emotionally or autistic impaired and collaborates with the educational planning and placement committees in the determination of eligibility of persons for programs and services in accordance with R340.1706 and R340.1722 of the Michigan Administrative Code. Coordinates and develops parent information and education activities. Approved by School Board 2/11/2020. Maintains accurate records on all intervention and counseling activities and provides monthly reports as requested. Maintains confidentiality in all matters. Develops and implements parent outreach activities to include quarterly information and presentation meetings on relevant topics. Must hold and maintain current CPI certification in verbal de‑escalation and physical restraint (training provided by the school district). Complies with exceptional education programs by participating in Child Study Team meetings, IEP meetings, and implementing appropriate educational programs within the classroom. Other related duties as assigned. ACCOUNTABILITY Responsible for appropriate and timely intervention into situations and behaviors that prohibit students from participating in or benefiting from the educational program. CONTACTS Has contact with students, school staff, parents, community, Board members, and Intermediate District, Bureau of Indian Education, community service and local mental health personnel. QUALIFICATIONS Master’s degree from a graduate school social work program approved by the Michigan Department of Education; the degree program shall consist of a two‑year graduate course, including appropriate methods courses and a minimum of 500 clock hours supervised social work practicum. Must have current or be eligible for state approval as a school social worker. At least one year experience providing social work services to elementary/middle school‑aged children and families. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrates good communication skills with parents and professionalism in a variety of situations. Must complete and pass a criminal history background check according to applicable laws and school board policies. Must comply with all rules and regulations pertaining to safety. Must be able to speak English (speak, read, write, and comprehend).
