Chair of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, College of MedicineThe University of Cincinnati's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine stands at a pivotal moment, one marked by significant opportunity to shape a modern, collaborative, academically strong, and clinically impactful future. A national search is underway to identify the next Chair. The Chair will bring an expansive vision for the future of pathology and lab medicine. The Chair will drive the strategic direction of the department, steward excellence across clinical, research, and educational missions, and lead initiatives to recruit and retain top-tier faculty.The Chair should have a proven track record across the spectrum of individual scholarship, collaborative academic leadership, clinical and research program development, educational excellence, successful faculty recruitment, retention, and advancement.The Chair will be an integral leader in the College of Medicine and needs to think and function in a system context. The Chair is responsible for expanding high impact clinical programs and innovative diagnostic services, rebuilding research infrastructure, and strengthening departmental culture to support faculty engagement and retention.The Chair will be responsible for developing and communicating a vision for the future of the department and maintaining a strategic plan and goals that align with those of the College of Medicine, UC Health, UC Physicians, VA Medical Center, and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. The Chair will direct and oversee the quality and effectiveness of the department's educational programs; foster an environment that emphasizes and supports the importance of the department's educational mission and recruitment of trainees. The candidate should have a track record of mentoring trainees and junior faculty to successful careers in Pathology.The Chair will encourage and support investigation and innovation, scholarly activities, and productivity. The Chair will implement initiatives to promote and increase extramurally funded research in the department including through a portfolio comprised of NIH, philanthropic and industry sponsored projects. The Chair will direct and oversee the clinical services of the department and ensure clinical excellence through a focus on patient safety, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and patient centered care. The Chair will recruit, manage, evaluate, develop, and retain talented faculty to fulfill the needs and missions of the department and various stakeholders. The Chair will foster a congenial, mentoring environment in which the trainees, faculty, and staff all feel supported and empowered to attain their greatest desired potential. The Chair will oversee the financial performance and long-term fiscal stability of the department's academic and clinical practice budgets. The Chair will develop annually, in collaboration with the department administrator, a budget for the department and oversee management of department finances and resources in accordance with College of Medicine and university policies and procedures. The Chair will seek opportunities to increase philanthropic support for the department and College of Medicine and actively participate in philanthropy and development programs. The Chair will model professionalism and ethical standards for faculty, residents, fellows, and staff and hold each of these cohorts similarly accountable.Required Education: MD or MD/Ph.D.Required Experience: Substantial leadership experience, a record of building research, and the ability to sustain partnerships that advance the academic, research, and clinical missions of the Department.Additional Qualifications Considered: The ideal candidate will meet the qualifications for the academic rank of Professor. The candidate will have obtained American Board of Pathology certification and possess or be eligible for a medical license in the State of Ohio, if applicable.
