Job Summary Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking an Infection Control Nurse for the Northern State Prison in Newark and Edna Mahan Correctional Facility in Clinton, New Jersey. The key responsibility is the implementation and evaluation of the Statewide Infection Control Program with a primary focus on HIV/AIDS–infected inmates to ensure a safe environment for inmates and staff. Duties Include Identify and assess inmates with HIV/AIDS, high‑risk status, or who request HIV counseling/education. Plan and coordinate inmate/patient access to primary medical care, including scheduling routine tests, procedures, case management, and ordering labs and medication under the supervision of the MD. Serve as a source of information and communication regarding infectious disease and infection control issues for the site. Provide HIV pre‑ and post‑testing counseling as needed. Assist with discharge planning for HIV‑infected inmates. Support the Statewide Infection Control Practitioner in developing and updating a Statewide Quality Improvement Program. Implement a surveillance program to assess staff practices and monitor infection control policies, such as management of contaminated needles, syringes, razors, dressings, etc. Qualifications Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing and hold an RN license in New Jersey. At least 2 years of documented clinical nursing experience. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between sites. CPR certification required. Computer literacy. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Physical Demands Perform CPR for at least 10 minutes as a first responder. Lift and carry an emergency treatment bag up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting and rotating patients up to 50 pounds. Special Conditions Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
