Job Summary: Universal Bankers are responsible for delivering exceptional customer service while building and maintaining customer relationships at the bank branch. This role supports a variety of banking functions including transactional services, account opening, consumer lending support, digital banking education, and identifying customer financial needs.
Level placement is based on experience, knowledge, and demonstrated banking expertise. Each level builds upon responsibilities, knowledge, and expectations of the preceding level. Employees are expected to continue performing the primary responsibilities associated with lower levels while taking on the additional responsibilities outline for their assigned level.
Universal Banker I (Assistant)
Starting Pay Range: $16-$18/hour
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide exceptional customer service during all customer interactions
Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently, recognizing red flags regarding frauds and scams
Assist customers with basic account maintenance and digital banking tools
Perform teller functions including but not limited to receiving checks and cash for deposit, verifying cash and endorsement, issuing receipts, issuing cashier’s checks, cashing checks, and paying out fund upon verification of signature and balance, balancing of cash drawer and maintaining established cash level.
Minimum Requirements:
6 months cash handling and customer service experience
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Dependable, organized team player with a positive attitude
Ability to communicate with customers in a professional manner
Basic computer skills including proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
Ability to multi-task, be organized, effective time management
Proven ability to balance a cash drawer accurately
Universal Banker II
Starting Pay Range: $18.40-$20.70/hour
Primary Responsibilities:
Open new consumer deposit accounts and accurately process all deposit account paperwork for new and existing customer accounts
Assist existing customers with account changes or inquiries, or any issues or questions they may encounter with their online products/services
Proactively promote and identify cross-selling opportunities to achieve individual, team and organizational sales and service goals
Provide referrals and other opportunities to other business lines (Insurance, Mortgage, etc.)
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
1 year cash handling experience in a customer-facing role
1 year of customer service experience or proven proficiency in Minnwest Consumer Account Opening Training
Previous experience in a bank/financial institution or a 2 or 4-year degree in finance, business or accounting
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to communicate with customers in a professional manner
Dependable, organized, self-motivated team player
Willing to continuously learn and grow within the organization
Basic computer skills, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suites
Preferred Qualifications:
2-year associates degree
2 years of customer service experience
1 year of consumer banking account opening, closings, and account maintenance
Ability to multi-task, be organized, with effective time management
Ability to identify customer needs and recommend appropriate products and services
Universal Banker III (Intermediate)
Starting Pay Range: $20.70-$23.36/hour
Primary Responsibilities:
Open new small business and complex business deposit accounts and accurately process all deposit account paperwork for new and existing customer accounts
Open and service advanced fiduciary accounts including guardianships, conservatorships, rep payees/VA
Open and service tax advantage accounts such as beneficiary IRAs, conversions and recharacterizations, transfers and rollovers
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
2 years of cash handling experience in a customer-facing role
2 years of customer service experience
1 year of experience in retail banking, or financial services in a customer facing sales role
1 year consumer, business, and fiduciary account opening or proven proficiency in Minnwest Consumer, Business and Fiduciary Account Training
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with customers in a professional manner.
Dependable, organized, self-motivated team player
Willing to continuously learn and grow within the organization
Intermediate level computer skills, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
2-year associates degree
2 to 5 years of consumer banking account openings, closings, and account maintenance
Effective time management skills including the ability to prioritize workload based on department and customer needs
Ability to identify customer needs and recommend appropriate products and services
Strong analytical and decision-making skills
Knowledge of credit and regulatory policy as it relates to consumer lending
Universal Banker IV (Advanced)
Starting Pay Range: $24.80-$27.90/hour
Primary Responsibilities:
Complete Ready Credit and installment loan applications for prospective loan accounts through Decision Pro and gather necessary documentation
Review loan files to ensure accuracy and completeness. Verify borrowers’ information, employment history and creditworthiness.
Communicate with other parties involved in the loan process. May have lending authority for Consumer credit and Home Equity Line of Credits. May have MLO role duties.
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
3 years of cash handling experience in a customer-facing role
3 years of customer service experience
2 years of experience in retail banking, or financial services in a customer-facing sales role
2 years consumer, business, and fiduciary account opening or proven proficiency in Minnwest Consumer, Business and Fiduciary Account Training
1 year of consumer lending experience or proven proficiency in Minnwest Consumer Lending training
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with customers in a professional manner.
Dependable, organized, self-motivated team player
Willing to continuously learn and grow within the organization
Intermediate level computer skills, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with bank compliance requirements
Working knowledge of consumer loan products
Schedule: Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Workplace Environment:
Requires face-to-face interaction and coordination of work with other employees and departments, and in-person interaction.
Working at a computer and utilizing a telephone
Occasionally lifting up to 50lbs
Pay Range: $16 – $27.90/hour
