JOB DESCRIPTION: CLEANING SUPERVISOR

**Schedule: **1st Shift (Days) – Full-Time, Non-Exempt

**Pay Range: **$22.00 – $28.00 per hour, depending on experience

**FLSA Status: **Non-Exempt (Supervisory)

Position Summary

The Cleaning Supervisor leads and oversees the daily cleaning and sanitation operations across production, packaging, and warehouse areas at Medical Products Laboratories, a GMP-regulated facility. This role is responsible for ensuring that all cleaning activities meet current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) standards, internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA). The Cleaning Supervisor directly supervises a team of cleaning/sanitation technicians, schedules and audits work, maintains documentation, and partners closely with Quality Assurance, Production, and Warehouse leadership to support audit readiness and product safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise, schedule, and coordinate daily activities of the cleaning/sanitation team across production, packaging, warehouse, and common areas.
• Ensure all cleaning and sanitation tasks are performed in accordance with cGMP requirements, master sanitation schedules (MSS), and written SOPs.
• Train, onboard, and evaluate cleaning staff; provide coaching and corrective action as needed to maintain performance and compliance standards.
• Review, complete, and maintain accurate cleaning logs, checklists, and batch-record-related documentation in real time (good documentation practices).
• Conduct routine inspections and pre-operational checks of production and packaging areas to verify cleanliness prior to line start-up.
• Manage inventory, proper storage, and safe use of approved cleaning chemicals, tools, and equipment; ensure SDS/labeling compliance.
• Support internal audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections (e.g., FDA) by ensuring sanitation records and practices are audit-ready at all times.
• Investigate cleaning-related deviations, non-conformances, or complaints; assist in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
• Partner with Quality Assurance and Production Supervisors to schedule cleaning around production changeovers and minimize downtime.
• Enforce personal hygiene, gowning, and safety requirements for cleaning personnel consistent with GMP and facility policy.
• Maintain and update SOPs, cleaning validation protocols, and the master sanitation schedule in collaboration with Quality.
• Order and track cleaning supplies and equipment; manage budget for sanitation-related consumables.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA and workplace safety standards for all cleaning and chemical-handling activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities or Quality Manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises a team of cleaning/sanitation technicians. Responsibilities include interviewing and recommending hires, scheduling, assigning and directing work, performance reviews, and addressing complaints and resolving problems in accordance with company policy.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or technical certification in a related field preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in a cleaning, sanitation, or facilities role within a GMP-regulated, pharmaceutical, medical device, or FDA-regulated manufacturing environment, including a demonstrated track record in a supervisory or lead capacity.
• Working knowledge of cGMP, FDA regulations (21 CFR Parts 210/211 or 820 as applicable), and industry sanitation standards.
• Experience with master sanitation schedules, cleaning validation, and documentation practices (GDP).
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to train, motivate, and hold a team accountable.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting sanitation records and practices during audits.
• Proficiency with basic computer applications (Microsoft Office, electronic logbooks, or CMMS systems) for scheduling and documentation.
• Knowledge of proper handling, storage, and disposal of industrial cleaning chemicals and understanding of associated SDS requirements.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach for extended periods throughout a shift.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and to push/pull cleaning equipment and supply carts.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing/warehouse environment with exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and cleaning chemicals.
• Required to wear and enforce proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and GMP gowning as designated by area.
• Ability to work a full-time, 1st shift schedule, with occasional flexibility for off-shift coverage, audits, or urgent sanitation needs.
