About The Department The Institute for Population and Precision Health (IPPH) , located in the Biological Sciences Division, integrates health behavior, environmental, social and economic factors, policies and genetic determinants of health into studies focused on disease treatment and prevention as well as wellness. The Institute aims to improve human health outcomes through population science and multidisciplinary collaboration across fields such as genetic medicine, cancer epidemiology, microbiome, and epigenomics. A major goal is to develop a multidisciplinary training program for precision health research within a population health framework. This at-will position is partly funded by extramural funds (e.g., grant, gift, endowment) renewed under grantor provisions. Employment is contingent on continued extramural funding and satisfactory performance. If funding ends, you will receive a minimum of one pay period’s written notice (exempt: 30 days, non-exempt: 2 weeks) or pay in lieu of notice. Job Summary The job provides technical research support activities related to collecting, documenting, and reporting on basic clinical studies and supports administrative and operational tasks for clinical research conducted across the University. Responsibilities Collects and maintains biometric data and biospecimens. Introduces patients at the UCMC and in Community Mobile Clinic Van to the research study, answers questions about participation and consent, and may assist in administering tests and/or questionnaires following protocols. Performs blood draws and processing of blood and urine samples. Responsible for packaging and shipping biological samples to an outside lab. Complies with Good Clinical Practices (GCP) and all applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures from the UChicago IRB, FDA CFR, and ICH. Maintains detailed records of results, including data collection, extraction, entry, and basic charts/graphs preparation. Prepares charts for participant visits, sets up and cleans exam rooms, enters data as needed, and conducts data and equipment quality control checks. Assists with and performs various administrative and operational tasks under direct supervision. Supports quality assurance reviews conducted by study sponsors, federal agencies, or designated review groups. Acquires and applies knowledge of clinical studies to collect analyzable clinical research data and/or samples. Performs other related work as needed. Education Minimum Qualifications Vocational training, apprenticeships, or equivalent experience in a related field; a four-year degree is not typically required. Work Experience Minimum Requirements Knowledge and skills developed through less than 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline. Certifications Preferred Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Nursing, Biology or closely related field. Experience 1-year relevant research experience including outreach, study recruitment, and collecting biometric data. Phlebotomy experience. Wet lab sample processing experience.
