Salary: $97,323 - 107,748 per year Requirements:

• We require registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect.
• We require that applicants registered outside Alaska hold licensure in a state recognized for comity by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors.
• We require Alaska registration within one year of hire for those appointed under the comity provision.
• We require a valid Alaska Drivers License.
• We require the physical ability to descend and ascend bridge embankments and riverbanks.
• We require a cover letter addressing the competencies listed in the posting.
• We require proof of a PE or Structural Engineer (SE) license at the time of application.
• We require three professional references with current phone numbers at the interview stage.
• We require documentation of National Bridge Safety Inspection Standards or equivalent certification, if applicable.
• We require a sample bridge load rating or a set of design calculations at interview.
• We require a technical writing sample at interview, preferably a bridge type selection or routine inspection report.
• We require completion of the education section of the application when education is used to meet qualifications.
• We require transcripts to verify educational credentials used to meet minimum qualifications.
• We require foreign education to be documented as equivalent to comparable U.S. education through recognized credential evaluation or an accredited U.S. state university.

• We perform structural engineering analysis and calculations to support bridge load ratings, bridge management activities, and overload permit reviews.
• We complete bridge safety inspections, including routine, non-redundant steel tension member, low-water, and in-depth inspections.
• We may prepare bridge construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and related reports.
• We contribute to the design services for new bridge projects and bridge rehabilitation work.
• We support the management of the States existing public highway bridge inventory.

We are the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, Bridge Design Section, and we are seeking an Engineer/Architect 1 to help us Keep Alaska Moving. Our Bridge Section is a production-focused team of hands-on engineers who prioritize safety and are recognized nationally for their expertise. We offer a supportive, encouraging environment with a small team of about 25 staff, broad technical knowledge across bridge disciplines, and opportunities for professional growth. This full-time position is based in Juneau, Alaska, at our Headquarters building near the Gastineau Channel, with flexible schedules, hybrid teleworking options, and travel opportunities across the state. We also provide strong professional development support, including formal and in-house training, advancement-focused mentoring, and assistance with drone pilot licensing and drone use for bridge inspections.
