This position is ideal for an experienced neonatal nurse who is confident caring for high-risk and critically ill neonates in a Level III NICU environment. You’ll care for a diverse neonatal population, including infants under 24–28 weeks, 29–34 weeks, and greater than 34 weeks , while utilizing advanced neonatal clinical skills and collaborating with respiratory therapy and other members of the interdisciplinary team. With a 1:3 patient ratio , 3×12 night shifts, and an opportunity to work in a high-acuity NICU, this assignment is an excellent choice for an experienced travel nurse looking for meaningful clinical experience. Key Responsibilities Provide specialized nursing care to critically ill and high-risk neonates Perform comprehensive neonatal assessments Monitor vital signs, respiratory status, neurological status, and cardiac rhythms Perform APGAR scoring Provide developmental care and thermoregulation Administer neonatal medications using accurate dosage calculations Administer antibiotics, antivirals, steroids, surfactants, anti-seizure medications, and IV vasopressors as ordered Manage IV therapy and vascular access Start and maintain peripheral IVs Manage central lines and implanted lines Perform central line blood draws Manage arterial lines Care for UACs and UVCs Administer and monitor blood and blood products Perform neonatal phlebotomy Monitor blood glucose levels Manage hyperbilirubinemia and phototherapy Administer insulin when indicated Support breastfeeding and proper handling of breast milk Provide bottle, breast, and gavage feedings Manage oral, NG, and NJ tubes Provide care for neonates with NEC Assist with lumbar punctures Provide care for infants experiencing Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Participate in therapeutic hypothermia/cooling protocols Provide patient and family education Attend high-risk deliveries Maintain strict infection-control and isolation precautions Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to promote optimal neonatal outcomes Advanced Neonatal Respiratory Experience Candidates should be comfortable caring for neonates requiring advanced respiratory support, including: Bubble CPAP High-Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) High-frequency ventilation Conventional ventilator management AC/PC SIMV CPAP BiPAP PEEP Oxygen delivery systems ETT and nasotracheal suctioning Chest tube management Nitric oxide (iNO) Meconium aspiration management Respiratory distress syndrome This is an excellent opportunity for NICU RNs who enjoy working with high-acuity neonatal respiratory cases .
