Job Purpose and Summary Our District Support Pharmacists (DSPs) play a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence within each pharmacy by acting as a role model for all and setting the bar for the pharmacy team. As a DSP, you will cover pharmacist scheduling gaps, oversee pharmacy operations, and act as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during bench shifts. You will manage and improve patient health through safe dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices while maintaining compliance with all pharmacy workflow procedures and safety guardrails. Responsibilities Live our purpose by helping to manage and improve patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices. Travel the district to fill pharmacist shifts as scheduled by the District Performance Coordinator (DPC); oversee the pharmacy and serve as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during bench shifts. Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following—and directing the pharmacy team to follow—pharmacy workflow procedures and utilizing safety guardrails at every workstation. Assume the Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist on duty. Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care and coaching the pharmacy team to do the same: demonstrate compassionate care, collaborate with patients’ total healthcare team, and proactively resolve insurance and/or medication issues. Proactively offer and deliver immunizations to keep patients healthy; engage and support Pharmacy Technicians to learn to immunize. Support effective inventory management by following—and guiding the pharmacy team to—inventory best practices, especially protecting cold chain products. Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, contributing to a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic. Maintain relevant clinical and technical skills for the job as the industry evolves (company‑required trainings and CMEs); actively seek opportunities to expand knowledge to better support patients. Support access to care and improve patient outcomes through pharmacist delivered clinical care, such as testing and prescribing services (COVID/Flu, Hormonal Contraception, etc.) where permissible. Understand and comply with all relevant federal and state laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; comply with CVS Health policies and procedures to safeguard patient safety and controlled substance dispensing and record‑keeping; protect patient privacy and maintain a safe, inclusive workplace for colleagues. Required Qualifications Active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located. Active National Provider Identifier (NPI). Not on the DEA Excluded Parties List. Ability to travel within a reasonable radius to support market staffing as business needs require. Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends. Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe. Attention and focus to concentrate on tasks over time and pivot quickly between tasks to meet patient and business needs. Ability to confirm prescription information and label accuracy, ensuring patient safety. Customer service and team orientation: actively help people in a friendly manner, recognize patient reactions, and respond appropriately. Communication skills: verbal and written communication, active listening, and clear instruction. Mathematical reasoning for determining dosage and supply calculations. Problem‑resolution ability to handle challenging interactions. Physical abilities: mobile and upright for extended periods; lift up to 20lbs occasionally, lift 10lbs frequently; flex and reach arms; maintain visual acuity for small tasks; use fingers and dexterity. Preferred Qualifications 1–2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting. Lift, scan, and bag items; lift and exert up to 20lbs occasionally and 10lbs frequently. Reach overhead; stretch or reach out with arms and or legs to grasp items. Move fingers repetitively; typing or working primarily with fingers. Stoop to a considerable degree, requiring full use of back muscles to move items. Close visual acuity to perform activities such as reading small parts. Express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word where detailed instructions must be conveyed accurately.
