About Us Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) is a community-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Chicago’s diverse immigrant and refugee communities. Established in 1981, CMAA is a cornerstone of the “Asia on Argyle” corridor of the Uptown Neighborhood of Chicago with satellite offices in Elgin and West Ridge. We offer after-school, summer camp, and mentoring programs for young people; case management, social services, ESL classes, job preparation, and immigration assistance for adults; in‑home care support for older adults; and small‑business support as the only AAPI‑led Small Business Development Center in Illinois. Job Type Full‑time Client Intake Specialist Located in Elgin, the specialist assists immigrants and low‑income families in navigating social services. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Assess client needs and determine program eligibility. Enter accurate data into case management and tracking systems. Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection policies. Provide clients with information on housing, employment, public benefits, and more. Make referrals to internal departments or external partners. Follow up to ensure successful connection to resources. Coordinate appointments and workshops. Support program staff with case files, reports, and documentation. Assist eligible participants in obtaining SNAP and LIHEAP subsidies. Help low‑income individuals and families, seniors, and people with disabilities obtain medical assistance, RTA ride‑free permits, etc. Collaborate with coworkers in community outreach by presenting CMAA’s services, conducting benefit information sessions, and recruiting attendees. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in social work or customer service preferred. Experience in a social services setting preferred. Bi‑lingual in English and another language preferred. Competence Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment. Compassion for helping the community. Work Environment Clerical office setting with computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Primary location: 357 Division Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Some evenings and weekends may be required for outreach and workshop events.
