Job Summary

Assists nursing staff and healthcare providers promote wellness in treating illness. Promote an optimal level of function in accordance with accepted standards of nursing practice and the policies, procedures, and protocols of the Nursing Department and Student Health Service.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

CMA: $20.00 per hour

MA: $19.00 per hour

Required Qualifications

CMA:
1. High school graduation or equivalent.
2. Possession of a current/valid medical assistant certification by an approved certifying board as defined by the employing institution.
**accepted certifications include CMA, NCMA, CCMA, and RMA


MA:
1. High school graduation or equivalent.
2. One (1) year of work experience and/or training which provided knowledge of clinical procedures and training in vital signs and patient prep for exams, sterilization and maintenance of instruments and equipment, and assisting with examinations and minor surgical procedures.

Work Hours

As needed. 28 hours per week maximum.

Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:

1. Ability to work quickly and accurately in order to maintain an organized patient flow through the office.
2. Ability to stand, walk, and/or kneel for long periods, ability to sit, hear, see, write, speak, and ability to use computers.
3. Ability to distinguish colors on a monitor.
4. Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small objects.

Special Instructions for Applicants

Extra Help employees may only work up to 28 hours per week for all University employment. Employees are only paid for hours worked and do not qualify for most benefits including health insurance and retirement, with Illinois State University. However, Extra Help employees are eligible to participate in the University's supplemental retirement savings plans (403b). Applicable retirement information is provided at the time of hire. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment. In addition, extra help employees may only work up to 900 hours total during their employment.

Applicable part-time work experience will be considered toward qualifying for this position; however, it will be converted to a full-time equivalency to determine combined length of experience.
