Job Summary *This recruitment will fill two separate Dean roles at LCCC: Dean, Business, Agriculture & Technical Studies (BATS) and Dean, Health Sciences and Wellness (HSW).*
The Deans in LCCC's schools of Business, Agriculture & Technical Studies (BATS) and Health Sciences & Wellness (HSW) are full-time, benefited positions responsible for developing and implementing strategic initiatives that enhance academic quality, support faculty development, and promote innovative teaching and learning practices throughout their respective schools. Deans oversee a broad range of programs designed for transfer and/or direct entry to the workforce. The BATS Dean oversees a diverse portfolio of academic disciplines such as Business & Accounting, Information Technology, Agriculture, and Trades, all of which are essential to the College's mission of providing high-quality education and fostering student success. The HSW Dean oversees a broad range of allied health programs and disciplines such as Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Dental Hygiene and Healthcare Administration. These leadership positions oversee curriculum development, ensure program accreditation, participate in faculty recruitment and development, and foster a culture of collaboration and excellence within the department and throughout the greater College community. The Deans work closely with faculty, staff, and administration to assess student learning outcomes, implement effective support services, and address the evolving needs of the student population. The Deans also collaborate with internal partners and local and regional stakeholders to ensure the School's programs meet the needs of students, businesses, and industry in the communities LCCC is designed to serve and impact. Additionally, the Deans serve as members of the Academic Leadership Team (ALT) for LCCC and work in full partnership with other members of ALT, as well as other areas, to foster active engagement in meeting the College's mission and strategic goals.

- Utilizes data to inform the strategic direction of the School. Aligns the design and implementation of School practices and planning with the College's Strategic Plan.
- Fosters effective communication and mutually beneficial relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners to sustain School operations as an integral part of LCCC.
- Staffs an effective and productive team to include hiring, motivating, directing, developing, and formally evaluating the work of others.
- Confirms the proficiency, development and growth of all faculty are aligned with LCCC's Faculty Competencies.
- Provides sustained leadership in a dynamic and rapidly changing academic environment with competing priorities, working cooperatively and coordinating projects with other LCCC employees, especially the SVPAA and members of the Academic Leadership Team.
- Serves as the department authority to assist in conflict resolution such as grade appeals, student conduct concerns, and course substitution.
- Participates in the College's budget development processes to create the annual department budget; ensures appropriate, accurate, and strategic utilization of the assigned fiscal resources.
- Allocates resources that maximize the impact of academic offerings, ensures financial sustainability, and supports long-term institutional goals.
- Oversees the physical learning environments assigned to the department including labs, classrooms, and equipment; seeks maintenance, improvement, and/or replacements through institutional procedures when pertinent.
- Seeks opportunities for new programs, partnerships, and grants through collaboration with other College service areas.
- Regularly analyzes Arts & Sciences programs for fiscal efficiency and positive student impact using available data, including making necessary recommendations for course and program reductions, when fiscally appropriate.
- Ensures course schedules align with institutionally prioritized metrics such as persistence, on-time completion, and section enrollment capacity.
- Confirms programmatic design aligns with external partners' needs, ensuring accessible opportunities for students exist upon degree completion in all pertinent Pathways.
- Applies awareness of regional economic trends and innovative practices to the development of new and promising programs; ensures existing programs are responsive to changing industry conditions and needs; streamlines existing programs, as needed, to accommodate ongoing considerations for value.
- Directs the regular analysis of programs for efficacy; identifies evidenced opportunities for modification as necessary, leading to enhanced program effectiveness.
- Ensures instructional practices throughout the department are student-centered; supports faculty development that promotes innovative teaching practices and excellent student outcomes.
- Promotes the School's programs locally and regionally through campaigns in partnership with Academic Leadership and Marketing & Communication.
- Promotes collaborative and interdisciplinary initiatives that leverage the strengths of many in support of student success and institutional growth.
- Engages in college-wide committees to represent the interests of School to contribute to discourse and decision-making.
- Works in close collaboration with Academic Affairs and Student Services peers to ensure schedules, activities, and opportunities are responsive to student and regional needs while maximizing access to College facilities and expertise.
- Advocates effectively for the needs of the School while able to subordinate departmental interests to the broader institutional interests when appropriate.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum design, teaching, instruction, and assessment.
- Knowledge and understanding of the philosophy and objectives of the community college.
- Knowledge of regulations and standards applicable to pertinent programs.
- Capacity to analyze data, identify trends, and make informed decisions based on findings.
- Ability to lead, motivate and manage teams or projects, often including decision-making and conflict resolution.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, contributing to group goals and fostering a collaborative environment.
- Proficient in organizing, updating, and maintaining accurate records in multiple digital formats. Skilled in using computer tools to ensure easy access, accuracy, and security of information.
- Must be able to plan, manage, and organize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
- Capable of representing the College in a professional manner, adapting to various situations with maturity, and maintaining confidentiality and discretion at all times.
- There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
- While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
- There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
- An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
- The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university
- Five years of supervisory experience, including evaluation of personnel, and experience developing and managing multiple large-scale department and program budgets
- Two years of experience with program management, development ,and assessment including reporting
- Two years teaching experience at the post-secondary level
- Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university
- Formalized study in Education Leadership, Higher Education, or Curriculum & Instruction
- Five years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level
