Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring current acute care telemetry/PCU experience and an active OH or compact RN license.

Details

• Work on a 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with 24+ beds dedicated to PCU level of care
• Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
• Rare pediatric patients may be present but are primarily cared for by permanent staff
• Uses B450 GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
• Staffing ratios target 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU, though ratios may vary based on unit needs
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19:00-7:30), though a 12-hour day/night rotating contract option may include a mix of day and night shifts based on department needs
• Weekend shifts are variable
• Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
• Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active RN license (OH state or compact) required and must be in hand at time of consideration
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required, and must be current (within the last 12 months) in the specialty being applied for
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• ICU and PCU backgrounds are also well-suited for this role
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Required skills include interpretation of dysrhythmias, use of rapid response teams, feeding tube care, accessing ports, blood product administration, central line care, peripheral line care, PICC line management, starting IVs, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management, PCA, chest tube management, external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula, and tracheostomy management
• Preferred skills include management of dysrhythmias, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drains, and non-invasive airway management
• Two professional references required, with at least one from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; Charge RN acceptable as second reference; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

• Provide high-acuity nursing care with a strong focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply and should come with a willingness to learn and grow their nursing practice
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
• RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
• Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees of the health system are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this facility
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting requirements urgently upon signing the contract, including traveling to an in-state location or completing a mailed fingerprinting packet if located a significant distance from Ohio
