Overview This position is located at the Milpitas Investigations Office in Milpitas. It is a Peace Officer position subject to POST requirements. The incumbent will perform highly confidential and complex criminal investigations related to internal security, employee misconduct, document integrity, public funds, burglary of offices, tampering with official records and systems, and other special cases of a criminal nature. The officer will also serve as a DMV law enforcement representative in multi‑agency criminal investigations and assignments involving the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Homeland Security, and other law enforcement or allied agencies. Responsibilities Conduct highly confidential and complex criminal investigations related to internal security, employee misconduct, document integrity, public funds, burglary of offices, tampering with official records and systems, and other special cases. Serve as a DMV law enforcement representative in multi‑agency criminal investigations and assignments involving the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Homeland Security, and other law enforcement or allied agencies. Provide direct criminal investigative testimony, witness, advisory services and services to State and Federal courts, other law enforcement or allied agencies, and DMV legal staff. Perform peace‑officer duties in accordance with the California Penal Code section 830.3, including effecting and assisting in arrests, issuing misdemeanor and registration‑violation citations, serving and assisting in search warrants, and performing other duties as required. Minimum Qualifications Pass a background investigation, psychological evaluation, and medical examination in accordance with state hiring restrictions. Submit the Examination/Employment Application (STD. 678), pre‑employment behavioral standards letter, and college transcripts if education is used to meet minimum qualifications. Be eligible for appointment by meeting the requirements of the California Civil Service system and having the required examination passed. Have authorization to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship is available. Provide fingerprint and criminal‑record clearance before hiring. Desirable Qualifications Ability to collect and use forensic data to identify, analyze and interpret trends or patterns in complex data to provide answers to investigative questions. Appointment Structure This position is initially a one‑year Limited‑Term, Full‑Time assignment if the selected candidate needs to complete POST requirements. Upon successful completion, the incumbent will be appointed Permanent, Full‑Time. If the selected candidate has already met POST requirements through a basic academy, they will be appointed Permanent, Full‑Time upon hire.
