Temporary Construction Technology, Woodworking, and Mechanical Design Engineering Teacher Temporary Assignment: September 15, 2026, for approximately five months. Logan City School District is seeking a qualified, safety-focused, and collaborative Construction Technology, Woodworking, and Mechanical Design Engineering Teacher for a temporary teaching assignment beginning September 15, 2026 to February 5, 2027. This position provides engaging, hands‑on instruction that develops students’ technical knowledge, craftsmanship, design abilities, problem‑solving skills, workplace readiness, and awareness of careers in construction, manufacturing, drafting, and engineering. Instruction will align with the Utah State Board of Education CTE strands and standards. General Function The teacher plans, delivers, and evaluates standards‑based instruction in classroom, computer laboratory, shop, and project‑based settings. Instruction includes construction processes, building systems, woodworking, applied mathematics, tool and equipment operation, computer‑aided design, three‑dimensional modeling, technical drawing, mechanical assemblies, rapid prototyping, and engineering documentation. The teacher maintains a safe, organized, inclusive, and effective learning environment and ensures students demonstrate required safety knowledge and skills before operating tools, machinery, or equipment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop and deliver instruction aligned with Utah CTE standards, district curriculum, applicable industry practices, and current technical drawing standards. Establish, teach, and consistently enforce classroom, laboratory, construction‑site, and shop safety requirements, including hazard recognition, equipment safety zones, chemical handling, Safety Data Sheets, personal protective equipment, appropriate clothing, industrial hygiene, and emergency procedures. Require students to pass applicable safety assessments with 100% accuracy and demonstrate safe operating procedures before using tools, machinery, or equipment. Closely supervise students during hands‑on activities and immediately address unsafe behavior, damaged equipment, hazardous conditions, or improper use of tools and materials. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe learning environment and ensure tools, machinery, chemicals, materials, projects, and safety equipment are properly labeled, secured, stored, maintained, and inventoried. Instruct students in the safe selection, operation, care, and maintenance of construction and woodworking hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, stationary machinery, CNC equipment, three‑dimensional printers, and other available equipment. Teach applied mathematics, accurate measurement, scale, estimation, coordinates, area, volume, ratios, proportions, and measurement conversions. Teach students to read, interpret, and create construction plans, woodworking plans, scale drawings, technical drawings, material lists, cut lists, parts lists, and other industry documents. Provide hands‑on instruction in construction processes, residential building systems, woodworking materials and methods, joinery, adhesives, fasteners, surface preparation, finishing, and basic building‑maintenance practices. Teach students to use industry‑relevant computer‑aided design and three‑dimensional modeling software to create accurate parts, models, technical drawings, assemblies, and engineering documentation. Provide instruction in orthographic and sectional views, line types, dimensioning, tolerancing, fasteners, welding symbols, sheet‑metal flat patterns, mechanical assemblies, and applicable ANSI/ASME drawing conventions. Guide students in designing, modeling, producing, testing, evaluating, and refining construction projects, woodworking products, mechanical assemblies, and three‑dimensional printed prototypes. Introduce students to sustainable construction, energy‑efficient practices, manufacturing processes, apprenticeships, certifications, postsecondary programs, and careers in construction, skilled trades, woodworking, drafting, engineering, and manufacturing. Develop students’ workplace skills, including safety awareness, dependability, communication, collaboration, organization, problem‑solving, craftsmanship, productivity, and professional conduct. Prepare students for applicable Utah CTE skill certification assessments and evaluate progress through assessments, demonstrations, technical drawings, digital models, portfolios, and completed projects. Provide differentiated instruction, accommodations, interventions, and enrichment based on individual student needs. Maintain required records related to attendance, achievement, safety‑test completion, certifications, inventories, and equipment use. Collaborate and communicate professionally with students, parents or guardians, colleagues, administrators, advisory committee members, industry partners, and postsecondary institutions. Participate in professional learning, faculty and department meetings, CTE program reviews, student leadership activities, and school and district initiatives. Maintain the confidentiality of student, employee, and district information in accordance with applicable laws, policies, and professional standards. Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The successful candidate should demonstrate: Knowledge of construction technology, construction trades, woodworking, manufacturing, mechanical design, and engineering principles. Knowledge of computer‑aided design, three‑dimensional modeling, technical drawing, mechanical assemblies, rapid prototyping, and applicable ANSI/ASME conventions. Knowledge of shop, laboratory, construction‑site, chemical, equipment, and personal safety requirements. Ability to safely operate, demonstrate, supervise, maintain, and store applicable tools, machinery, computers, and technical equipment. Ability to create and interpret construction plans, woodworking plans, technical drawings, production documents, mechanical models, and assemblies. Knowledge of applied mathematics, measurement, scale, coordinates, estimation, dimensioning, and tolerancing. Ability to plan and supervise projects appropriate for available facilities, equipment, materials, time, and student skill levels. Ability to establish a safe, organized, productive, and inclusive classroom and shop environment. Ability to explain technical concepts clearly, differentiate instruction, assess student performance, and respond to varying student needs. Effective verbal, written, visual, interpersonal, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and maintain confidentiality. Education and Certification Requirements Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Valid Utah Professional Educator License with an appropriate CTE or Secondary Education license area, or the ability to obtain the required license. Appropriate Utah endorsement or authorization for assigned courses. Applicable endorsements may include Technology and Engineering, CAD Mechanical Design, Woods, Technology, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, or Construction Management. Knowledge or experience in construction, woodworking, manufacturing, mechanical design, engineering, drafting, or a related field. Ability to meet all Utah State Board of Education and district requirements for assigned courses. Preferred Qualifications Teaching, training, supervisory, or industry experience in construction, woodworking, manufacturing, computer‑aided design, drafting, engineering, or a related technical field. Proficiency with industry‑relevant computer‑aided design and three‑dimensional modeling software. Experience with technical drawings, mechanical assemblies, engineering documentation, CNC equipment, three‑dimensional printers, laser cutters, or other digital manufacturing technologies. Relevant industry credentials, trade certifications, CAD certifications, safety certifications, or apprenticeship experience. Experience preparing students for Utah CTE skill certification assessments. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. The position may require: Standing, walking, or sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods. Bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, climbing, and working in various positions. Operating computers, tools, controls, machinery, and technical equipment. Lifting, carrying, pushing, or moving materials, lumber, projects, tools, prototypes, and equipment. Closely observing student work and responding quickly to unsafe conditions. Distinguishing fine details in measurements, drawings, models, materials, and completed projects. Working around dust, noise, fumes, chemicals, sharp tools, moving machinery, and other conditions associated with construction, woodworking, and manufacturing shops. Wearing and requiring appropriate personal protective equipment. Machines, Tools, and Equipment The position may require the use and supervision of: Computers, printers, plotters, CAD software, three‑dimensional modeling software, and slicing software. Three‑dimensional printers, CNC routers, CNC lasers, and related digital manufacturing equipment. Measuring and layout tools, including scales, tape measures, micrometers, and calipers. Construction and woodworking hand tools, portable power tools, pneumatic equipment, fastening equipment, and compressors. Saws, jointers, planers, drill presses, routers, sanders, lathes, and other stationary machinery. Plumbing, electrical, HVAC, masonry, drywall, painting, and general building‑maintenance tools and training equipment. Dust‑collection systems, ventilation systems, fire‑protection equipment, and personal protective equipment.
