About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Duration: 26-week contract through holidays Shift: Full Time Days or Nights as scheduled (3x12s), Every Other Weekend Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Two years of experience in the Emergency Department required. License: Registered Nurse Licensure Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification (AHA or RQI only) required. Must-Have: One year of acute hospital experience as a registered professional nurse. Description: The Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies nursing theory, technical skills, and communication skills in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient needs, identifies urgent or emergent care priorities, and collaboratively provides direct care. The ED RN applies appropriate interventions and evaluates patient progress. The ED RN demonstrates skill in using various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions. The nurse is responsible for managing life-threatening and routine emergency situations. The ED RN utilizes the principles of relationship-based care to alleviate anxiety, provide information, and address pain or discomfort and safety. He/She assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups, as well as their families and support systems. The nurse connects with patients and families during triage and identifies the initial management of patients, assigning care priorities. The ED RN establishes rapport with patients and families, addresses comfort needs, listens carefully, and provides frequent updates. The nurse conducts primary assessments of critical needs, detects major deviations from the norm, and documents findings. He/She identifies necessary interventions required based on assessments. The nurse uses various methods, including direct observation and patient/family interviews, to conduct secondary assessments. The ED RN reassesses the patient to identify their response to treatment and changes in condition and responds appropriately. The nurse fosters mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to accomplish the best possible patient outcomes. He/She teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks consistent with individual education, training, and scope of practice. The nurse understands the importance of compliance with infection prevention strategies for public safety. He/She prepares patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments and makes referrals for post-emergency care. The ED RN teaches patients how to continue care and healing at home and assesses patient/family learning styles to maximize understanding. The nurse evaluates retention of key points in education and discharge instructions. He/She ensures that patient and family needs are acknowledged and central to care. The nurse creates a healing environment and keeps patients and significant others informed throughout their stay. He/She anticipates patient/family needs and maintains awareness of the patient’s condition during their visit. The ED RN updates patient communication boards throughout the emergency department stay.
