Assistant Professor of Art History – Pre‑modern Islamic Art Wesleyan University’s Department of Art and Art History invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor of Art History, effective July 1, 2027. The position focuses on pre‑modern Islamic art prior to 1800, with special consideration for scholars of the South, Central, and/or West Asian region. Candidates from related fields such as architectural history and archaeology are welcome. Responsibilities Teach a teaching load of two undergraduate and two graduate courses each semester on campus. Advise and mentor students at all levels. Develop and sustain a program of research and scholarly publishing. Participate in departmental and university faculty governance. Qualifications Ph.D. in Art History or a closely related field received by the date of appointment as an Assistant Professor, or a candidate completing the Ph.D. within one year for an Instructor appointment. Specialized knowledge and methodology in pre‑modern Islamic art before 1800, with an emphasis on South, Central, and/or West Asian art. Strong record of scholarship and a demonstrated ability to publish in peer‑reviewed outlets. Commitment to teaching excellence and evidence of effective undergraduate instruction. Location On Campus, Middletown, Connecticut.
