Municipal Finance Consultant (12-Month Consulting Engagement)Location: Fully Remote (Occasional Travel to Trenton, NJ)Our client is seeking an experienced Municipal Finance Consultant to support a New Jersey municipality through a 12-month consulting engagement. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned municipal finance professional with extensive knowledge of New Jersey municipal finance laws, budgeting, and governmental accounting to make an immediate impact while working remotely.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist with the preparation and administration of the annual municipal budget.Support the preparation of Annual Financial Statements (AFS).Oversee general ledger maintenance and account reconciliations.Strengthen and maintain internal controls.Prepare financial reports for municipal leadership and governing bodies.Coordinate audit preparation and respond to auditor requests.Monitor municipal revenues and expenditures.Assist with financial forecasting and long-term fiscal planning.Ensure compliance with New Jersey municipal finance regulations and reporting requirements.Recommend process improvements to enhance financial operations.Support special finance initiatives and strategic projects.Present financial information during occasional Board, Council, and committee meetings.QualificationsPrevious finance leadership experience within a New Jersey municipality.Extensive knowledge of New Jersey municipal finance laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.Experience preparing municipal budgets and Annual Financial Statements (AFS).Strong background in governmental accounting, financial reporting, and audit support.Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.Ability to work independently in a fully remote consulting environment.Position DetailsEmployment Type: 12-Month Consulting EngagementLocation: Fully RemoteTravel: Occasional travel required for meetings in Trenton, NJStart Date: ImmediateIf you have a proven background in New Jersey municipal finance and are looking for a long-term remote consulting opportunity, we'd love to hear from you!Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs.
