What you can expect:

An exciting opportunity is available to join Gewalt Hamilton Associates, an employee-owned, multi-faceted civil engineering and land surveying company that has built a reputation of civil engineering with a personal approach. We are seeking an Project Engineer to join the Municipal Division team and be a part of our growing team located in Vernon Hills, IL. This is an exempt position with straight overtime pay. The Project Engineer will report to the Division Director or Assistant Division Director.

This position requires a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois or the ability to obtain in 6 months. This position also requires independent work skills and the ability to communicate with GHA staff as well as outside agencies, clients, and the public to achieve approval for designs, analysis and plans, and investigate complaints from the public. This position requires field and office work.

You shall demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills, be a self-starter, be able to carry out assignments with limited oversight in a timely manner, and show competency in the following areas:

How you will make an impact:

• Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard and complex engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
• Manage project schedules and train junior engineers and/or technicians on projects.
• Self-starting, detail-oriented individual with organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Visit project sites to troubleshoot complex construction issues and be able to effectively communicate desired outcomes.
• Complete engineering tasks with limited oversight and seek feedback at appropriate periods of work under the supervision and mentoring of project managers.
• Work in a team setting with other team members within all divisions of the company.
• Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet deadlines.
• Assist in proposal preparation and technical report writing.
• Responsible for maintaining technical knowledge through completion of various training initiatives; attending seminars, reviewing professional publications, and attending in-house systems/management training.

What you will bring to Gewalt Hamilton Associates, Inc

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
• Hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Illinois or obtain it within 6 months of hire.

Experience:

• Have at least 4 years of civil engineering experience and 2 years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.
• Have a valid Illinois Driver's License.
• Experience with Microstation/GEOPAK and/or AutoCAD/Civil 3D

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must be able to collaborate with other team members and have good interpersonal skills.
• Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
