Duties & Primary Responsibilities:  The Fleet Mechanic Helper is an entry-level, hands-on position supporting our fleet mechanics in the inspection, preventive maintenance and repair of company vehicles and equipment. The employee will work alongside experienced mechanics on light, medium and heavy-duty vehicles, trailers, forklifts and other company equipment.

• Assist mechanics with preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting and repairs on company vehicles, trucks, trailers, forklifts and equipment.
• Perform or assist with oil and filter changes, lubrication, fluid checks, batteries, lights, tires and other routine maintenance appropriate to experience and training.
• Assist with removal, installation and replacement of vehicle and equipment components.
• Retrieve and stage tools, parts and supplies needed for repairs.
• Maintain parts, tool and equipment inventories and help track work orders.
• Move vehicles and equipment into and out of the shop and transport vehicles as needed.
• Clean parts, tools, equipment and work areas and maintain an organized, safe shop.
• Learn proper maintenance procedures, use of shop equipment and basic diagnostic/troubleshooting techniques.
• Follow company safety procedures and properly use required PPE.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED
• Valid state-issued Driver License and acceptable driving record
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude or hands-on experience working with vehicles, engines, equipment, machinery or mechanical systems
• Basic familiarity with hand and power tools
• Ability to follow repair instructions and safety procedures
• Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds and perform work involving standing, bending, kneeling and reaching
• Dependable attendance
• Willingness to learn

Preferred:

• Automotive/diesel/heavy -equipment coursework or vocational training
• Previous automotive, diesel equipment, maintenance, forklift or similar mechanical experience
• Basic preventative-maintenance experience
• Familiarity with electrical, hydraulic or mechanical systems
