Fleet Maintenance Supervisor

Position Summary The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for supervising a maintenance shop under the umbrella of a Maintenance Manager. The role involves supervising a technician (mechanic) team responsible for preventive maintenance/repair of a fleet; machinery that supports a post‑collection facility; repair/maintenance of equipment that services the container shop; and providing direction to technicians to ensure all repairs/maintenance are performed in compliance with company safety and compliance standards, and federal and state regulations. The Supervisor plans and schedules repair work to ensure work is done safely and timely, reducing lost productivity. Responsibilities Provide direction to A, B and C level technicians and lead technicians to ensure safe, efficient, and timely maintenance work. Monitor operational performance and efficiency and take action to redirect activities as needed. Report to management on performance and make recommendations for process/programmatic changes. Supervise technicians in the maintenance shop, conduct daily shop huddles, fleet walks, coaching, counseling, and training; make hiring/termination decisions in concert with HR; conduct employee training and performance evaluations; recommend merit increases, promotions, and job changes. Inspect outside repairs to ensure work is completed per company safety and compliance procedures and regulations; follow up as appropriate. Identify training opportunities and document issues for corrective action discussions. Conduct quality control inspections, track issues and resolution, ensuring work is completed per safety and compliance procedures. Oversee repair diagnostics on complex matters, provide coaching, and may road‑test vehicles to determine necessary repairs. Oversee maintenance shop inventory control to maintain equipment and parts levels; review and approve budget‑within‑scope expenses; refer larger expenses to manager as appropriate. Maintain advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic, electrical, heating and air‑conditioning, and welding tools to perform advanced preventive and repair maintenance functions on heavy equipment and vehicles aboard and on the road. Manage related administrative matters, including payroll, maintenance of employee records, preventive and corrective maintenance records, data entry into Dossier Maintenance Software, budget preparation, and setting departmental goals. Qualifications High school diploma or G.E.D. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification T3 Drive, T4 Brake, T5 Suspension and Steering, T6 Electrical/Electronic, T7 HVAC Systems, ASE T2 Diesel Engine, ASE T Master Certified Minimum Requirements 3 years of experience in maintenance with heavy equipment. 1 year of supervisory experience in a lead technician role or other management role requiring extensive knowledge of safe working practices, DOT, OSHA, and other federal and state regulations. Pay Range The pay range is $75,100.00 to $103,300.00*, reflecting minimum wage in multiple jurisdictions. The actual range will depend on the locality.
