WCSU is seeking four (4) full‑time Maintainer positions to join our Environmental & Facilities Custodial Department in Danbury, Connecticut. These positions play a key role in maintaining the beauty, safety, and functionality of our campus grounds. Position Requirements Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week Second Shift Work Shift: Monday – Friday, 4:00 pm – 12:00 am Eligible candidates must possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license A medical exam, drug screen, and criminal background check will be required prior to offer of employment About the Department The Environmental & Facilities – Custodial Services Department is responsible for providing custodial services for both campuses of the university. These duties include cleaning of classrooms, bathrooms, and common areas, as well as trash and snow removal and other general maintenance tasks. About the Role The role of a Maintainer at Western Connecticut State University includes a wide range of tasks to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of the campus facilities. Candidates selected for these positions will be tasked with various duties, including, but not limited to, snow removal during winter months to ensure safe passage for students, faculty, and visitors on the Midtown and Westside campuses in Danbury, Connecticut. These Maintainer roles are integral to the university’s commitment to providing a safe and functional academic environment. Candidates must be prepared to work in various conditions. Preferred Qualifications Prior custodial experience Commercial/industrial cleaning experience Experience working in a large facility or multiple buildings Experience operating, caring for, and performing minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work Experience performing simple record keeping Proven experience installing bulletin boards, pictures, shelving, and moving furniture Experience with snow removal Physical Requirements Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility, visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the class. A physical examination may be required. Working Conditions Incumbents may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to extreme weather conditions and risk of injury from equipment and assaultive and/or abusive patients or clients. Incumbents may be required to complete an asbestos removal program consistent with EPA guidelines for operations and maintenance during employment in this class. Incumbents may also be required to use protective equipment such as respirators and safety goggles.
